Black to play and come up with an opening plan

I've been playing around with different opening puzzles and this one is particularly interesting to me. At first I thought White was much better, as he/she has a bishop pair and, if you look closely, he/she also has a couple of extra tempi. In fact, as a challenge I ask you to try to get to this position from the starting position following a plausible move order. After that, I tell you as a spoiler that black's move is 9...a6!? Can you find the logic or the plan? How should we evaluate the position after that?

Do you want to exercise your tactical skills a little? Then solve this chess puzzle. Indicate the correct move and a full continuation. If you want, you can point out the tactical motives and other patterns present.

I also want to invite you to participate in the many chess tournaments on lichess.org. If you play chess online, join in! Free registration.

I think d6 is a solid move. Castling on the queen side is already dangerous for both sides since column C is open. d6 allows to develop Bf8 and castle on the king side. b8-h2 diagonal might serve black to attack the white king after castling.

Hey! Do you mean 9... e6 instead? Yes, it is a main move in the position and your analysis is correct to me. However, the candidate move we're discussing is 9... a6 as I said in the puzzle description (perhaps I should rephrase it to make it more clear?). So you have to answer the questions about the position after that move.
