Hola amigos de esta maravillosa comunidad. Culmina la primera ronda del Sexto Clásico Mundial de beisbol y los fanáticos al beisbol, pudimos disfrutar de buen número de partidos cargados de emoción y desenlaces inesperados, en algunos casos.
En el grupo asiático, tal como se preveía Japón dominó claramente con cuatro victorias al hilo, en tanto el segundo puesto del grupo lo disputaron encarnizadamente los elencos de Australia, Taipéi y Korea. Los tres equipos antes mencionados quedaron empatados con 2-2 y por el polémico coeficiente del TQB, Korea fue el clasificado a la próxima ronda.
El grupo que tuvo por sede a Puerto Rico, vio como Colombia y Panamá decepcionaban, y tanto Cuba como Canadá y los locales, se enfrascaban en una lucha intensa por los dos cupos en disputa. Como escribí e un post anterior, el juego Cuba- Canadá seria definitorio y lo fue, los norteños doblegaron 7-2 a los cubanos, eliminándolos del torneo, y quedando de paso, primeros de la llave.
Dominicana y Venezuela fueron demasiado para sus rivales de grupo y llegaron invictos al último partido entre ellos, ganado por los quisqueyanos 7-5, en otro choque que se calentó al final.
Todos confiaban que el Team Usa seria primer lugar sin problemas de su pool, sin embargo, una combativa y corajuda selección italiana los derrotó 8-6 y los envió al segundo puesto. El equipo mexicano, favorito a seguir con vida en el torneo, tampoco pudo con los “bambinos” y se fue rápidamente eliminado.
De tal modo, la escena ha quedado lista para los enfrentamientos de cuartos de final, entre los equipos que mejor se han visto en el torneo.
