With a little more than 5 days to go before the official start of the MLB season, in this case the week of March 20 in Seoul, South Korea, to be held a week later in the United States, everything is almost ready to open the curtain of a new season in the best baseball in the world, where in my opinion, the main attraction is the arrival of Shohei Ohtani to the National League for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The arrival of the Japanese to the old circuit, will add a very spicy ingredient to a race for the most valuable player that in this 2024 and in the coming campaigns, will undoubtedly have the Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr. recently winner of this award, and it will be quite interesting to see how these two titans of modern baseball will delight us with their respective talents in a single sector of the tournament.
| El mayor atractivo | The main attraction
Seeing the performance of the Atlanta Braves in 2023, team where Ronald Acuña Jr. plays, who by the way recently expressed his desire to be in this franchise for the rest of his professional career, we see that he is the main responsible for the success of the Georgia team in 162 games, or in great part of it, the pride of the Sabana Venezuela, as he dominated in its entirety all the offensive departments of his team.
All of that was transferred to the overall league level, which was accompanied by several other good players, but imagine watching all that now in the company of Shohei Ohtani, a player with very different characteristics, but that the end result in terms of batting average, homers and RBIs and hits connected, are very consistent and similar to those of Acuña Jr. a nice fight that if both stay healthy, there will be a lot of training for years to come in the national league.
I see these two great baseball players and I immediately go back to a few years ago in soccer, specifically to the Spanish League, and the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for 8 consecutive seasons, two greats of world football, a bit to put in context to those who are not very fond of baseball, and realize the magnitude and what they will be able to do in the near future these guys.
Although they are two totally different sports, I think this type of rivalries, totally healthy, are the ones that keep a game alive, that although it has suffered modifications lately in its rules to make it more dynamic, the protagonists in this case will add a plus in the sport that will make us look at other things in the game in others team, more than the wins and losses of a team, the positions and the simple fact of who will qualify or not for the post season.
What I mean by this last point is that we are going to see the basic fundamentals more entrenched and on other teams, base stealing, good base running, moving runners (Acuna Jr.) mixed with other greater offensive capabilities such as those Ohtani brings to the National League, purely for a long time pitching circuit, not to mention, when the Japanese player starts pitching, what he will add will be truly extraordinary.
This way of playing will awaken the talent and way of seeing the game of other teams, who in their way of containing these talented players, will be able to compete during the tournament along with other teams, which more than an attraction to see the two best players of the moment, I believe and I think will change the game a little in the coming years. Say no more, just: play ball.

Salud y saludos.
