Otro caso muy notorio fue el del colombiano Luis Díaz del Liverpool, si bien el llegar a Barcelona no dependía de él, era otro jugador que gustaba a la gerencia deportiva del club, pero la intención de ficharlo, aumentó su valor en el mercado en semanas, cosa que no se podía permitir, debido a que era mucho dinero por una sola pieza en ataque, buscando alternativas como las del sueco Rooney Bardghji y el mencionado inicialmente Marcus Rashford, quienes no les importó rebajarse el sueldo, y el no saber si serán inscritos, lo que demuestra al final, que si quieren estar en el Barca, punto muy importante, pues una cosa es jugar al fútbol y cobrar por ello, algo que técnicamente es viable, y otra muy distinta, querer jugar, pero en un lugar en específico.

Algo que sí hicieron Deco y La Porta, fue aumentar el valor de los jugadores pretendidos, al decir en su momento, que eran del gusto del club, para finalmente no contratarlos. No sabemos si lo habrán hecho con intención, pero hay quienes dicen que eso debilitó las oportunidades que tenían otros clubes a ir a por Williams y Díaz, pues el solo hecho de que un club como el Barcelona pregunte por ellos, su valor aumenta, quedándose los mismos, con sus equipos de origen. Han renovado a más de la mitad de la plantilla, con contratos garantizados y por muchos años, se han dado el lujo de dejar pasar acuerdos por jugadores élites. Más que aprendizaje, es un ejemplo, de cómo se debe manejar el mercado, y amoldarlo a su favor. Creemos que cubrieron las debilidades del club, con calidad y no con nombres.
