We're part another day at the French open, full of surprises. Yesterday at some point I thought the title of my post will be shock at Roland Garros again, but then fortunately things have turned out quite well.

Now let's see what happened at the French Open.

Jannik Sinner vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

This was the match that almost took a dramatic turn at the end of the fourth set.

Jannik Sinner is the most talented player of the new generation without a doubt. I see him taking Djokovic's place in a few years. Mark my words as it's going to happen. He has all the qualities needed to get to the top.

Sinner started out as 18th seed and it was clear from the start who has the most chance to win, but Herbert was in control of his game as well, that is how he managed to almost win the 4th set as well. It was a close call for sure. I'm glad Sinner managed to win at the end as he's an important piece of the puzzle. I need him to get to the semifinals at least, if not the finals.

It was the most beautiful and exciting match of the day, no doubt. The highest quality you like. Not every day that you can see a great match that this one. Fighting for every point, from the start to the end is amazing.

David Goffin had a bad day it seems, meeting Lorenzo Musetti so early in the tournament ended his journey as the Italian was able to win in minimal sets. Goffin's future doesn't look so bright. He is still able to qualify to Grand Slam tournaments but he has difficulties advancing. He may be at the end of his career soon.

I would have loved to see this match, but when 4 matches are played the same time, TV broadcasters are focusing on the one that has the higher ranked player and these two were not as important at that specific time frame.

Both players are my favorite and both are very good, so it would have been a tough match to watch, but in a good way. Sonego had a very good evolution this year and looked like he's heading towards new highs but unfortunately he met Harris yesterday.

Harris is an extremely talented player, capable of beating everyone. I don't know where he's been and why he started so late, but he's also unstoppable. He's been dealing with some injuries, so he had to sit out a couple of tournaments, but it seems like he's back, fully recovered and the first obstacle is eliminated from his way.

I'm kind of feeling sorry for losing Sonego, he was also an important piece of the game, but when two players are playing, only one can win and yesterday that was Harris.

Denis Istomin vs Roger Federer

This was the match Eurosport was focusing on yesterday. Federer is a legend and him participating in this tournament is a big thing. he's been missing from the competitions for approximately one and half years.

I've been looking forward to watching Federer playing, but this match was simply boring. Denis Istomin is new to me, I've never heard of him, let alone seeing him playing and there's a good reason for that. He's 35 years old, which would not be a problem alone as Federer is 40, but Istomin looks like at the end of his career as you don't see him in major tournament.

Yesterday he tried hard, but could not do much. Imagine if Federer would have been at the top of his game, he would have beaten Denis Istomin to (0-6) (0-6) (0-6). Let's look at the bright side though. Denis Istomin had the chance to meet the great legend again and Federer had a good practice, without exhausting himself.

This was the other match I expected a lot from. Contrary to the others, these two players are not my favorites. Actually I was expecting Bublik to eliminate Medvedev. Winning against 2nd seed is a huge challenge for everyone, but Bublik had a good evolution lately, plus Medvedev hates playing on clay. This gave me hope that Bublik can do it.

Unfortunately things did not work out as i wanted. Looks like the Russian was able to work on his frustration level and control himself. He said in the interview after the match that he thinks he can play on clay, he's capable to do it and it's going to make it work. Not what I was expecting honestly. However, winning one match does not mean he's can manage his frustration and can beat everyone. We'll see how good he can be on clay in the upcoming days.

Casper Ruud was able to defeat the French Benoît Paire in four sets. Paire won the first set but that was it. Ruud is continuing his journey he started this year and it looks like he's also unstoppable.

The other regret I have is not being able to watch the Sam Querrey vs
John Isner match. Isner has grown a lot on me for his high quality playing style. At this point I consider him the best, even better than the top players. I know it's foolish to say that as he's not at the top but from technical point of view, he's the best in my eyes. I also know he has little time to play as he's heading towards the end of his career, so every match counts.

Today will be interesting as well and every day at the French Open. Lots of twists and turns, so buckle up!

Great to see the Swiss- Roger Federer back. He showed some glimpse of who he used to be. Will be looking to see how progress when faced with tougher opponents.

Indeed, you're right. Let's see what he's going to do tomorrow with Marin Čilić. Normally it shouldn't be a problem for Federer, but we know he's out of practice. Fingers crossed though.
