Slovenska Bistrica - Ptujska gora - Slovenska Bistrica

A relatively long cycling trip after a very long time. It was probably 15 years since I last cycled around 50 kilometers in one go.

My wife and I went from Slovenska Bistrica to Ptujska gora and back. We did several short stops and a long one at our destination.

Since we both have mountain bikes and riding mostly on asphalt we were like a fish out of the water. Still, we made great progress and it was fun kicking up the hills and speeding down the road.

The only thing that wasn't fun was a good kilometer long section of a straight main road where the cars were overtaking us at more than 90 kilometers per hour.

When we veered off the main road there was less traffic and more hills. Everything in life has two sides, I guess. Good and better :)

Let me show you some photos from the ride.

Črešnjevec was the first village out of the town we were cycling through.

A very old info table in the next village, Vrhloga,

Beehive outside of the Vrtloga.

Our first longer stop was at Sestržko jezero (lake).

On Ptujska gora, looking to the plains in the north.

Catching reflections.

A bookshelf in the form of the local church. Fancy.

Another view from the top.

Selfie of a cyclist. A rare occasion.

A chestnut tree with thousands of fruits on it.

This church atop of Ptujska gora is quite famous and a pilgrimage destination, they say.

In the end, it was 45.5 kilometers with 434 meters of climb. The majority of the climb was up to Ptujska gora. Gora means mountain. Actually, it's a hill in the middle of a big plain. Still, the climb up is very steep. Judge for yourself from the profile image.

The map of our cycling. We returned the same way we came. At the start, there was a wish to go north and make an even longer loop yet it was already late and we needed to return back to Slovenska Bistrica in time.
