2h endurance run on cold Saturday morning

Cold Saturday morning by the winter-clad river

Saturday in the morning, it was time to go out and run an endurance run. Like this:

  • 8 am
  • 2 hours of easy pace
  • almost 19 kilometers
  • mostly on the tarmac
  • -9 degrees
  • foggy
  • cold? you bet!
  • fun? 100%

Some of the photos below are enhanced to underline the drama of a slow long run :)

Crossing the river Sava for the first time. The water is green.

On the left bank there is several kilometers long recreational path that is perfect for running, hiking, even cycling at a slow speed.

B&W photo of a river stream in winter fog. I should make a #monomad post with these photos ...

Here it seems that the river is falling off to the right. It does not.

There is real green to be seen after all the grey and white.

On a return leg, I ran by the fields and through the forest. The road was icy.

A happy and a bit frozen runner.

The goal was to run for two hours. 15 minutes before the end I made a detour over the hill to add some vertical meters to the task. Did I succeed?

It was a perfect run for a cold winter morning.

Have a great weekend, my friends.

Congratulations on your performance! I did 20 kilometres yesterday, though not running, but walking on rocky terrain, using Actifit sports tracker (see my post). Is Exhaust a mobile app? Maybe I would try it!

Thank you very much and congrats to you too.

Walking 20 K on a demanding terrain is quite an achievement.

@exhaust is a Hive-based app too. It's a website. You can upload your data or connect Strava.

Check it out here -> https://xhaust.me/

Good luck!

I checked Exhaust. This is for much tougher guys or girls but not for me. I cannot run, only walk because i have foot and heel problem. I never do any sports before and i'm over fifty. But thank you, i can never know when i will need it.

You have a hike as a sport too. So @exhaust is for you too :)

All you need is a sports watch or an app like Strava on your phone...

That's pretty cold. Do you find you warm up from the running? I expect I would need a few layers, but then might have to strip some off later.

Thanks. I was surprised it didn't feel like -9 at all. More like -4 or 5 :) Maybe because it wasn't so humid.

I only had two layers above the waist. Technical undershirt and running west. Plus a hat and gloves and a buff around the neck, of course.

Three layers would be too much.

As for the legs, I was thinking of putting on longjohns. I decided not to and it was a good decision. OK, with slow runs two layers below are not an issue. Yet, with quicker runs, it can be too much ...

You are doing great with park runs, congrats!

I get by with shorts down to at least freezing. Wore my warm long sleeve top this morning. parkrun is fun even when it's muddy. I'm am not worrying about that so much, but I was glad to miss the worst of the rain today. I just want to find a bit more speed over 5k.

Mud is a strength workout !LOLZ

You need short intervals for speed. Very short for 5 K. Something like this.

My roommate keeps saying that our house is haunted.
But I've lived here for last 216 years, and haven't heard anything unusual.

@steevc, I sent you an $LOLZ on behalf of @ervin-lemark

I do a run with some 300m sprints slightly uphill. I can do those at a faster pace. I guess I need to keep doing stuff like that. I sometimes run with a keen triathlete and he does lots of intervals.

Then you are on the right path. Keep on pushing your intervals :)

Great pace and good on ya for getting out in the cold. That being said that scenery is just outstanding! What a wonderful place for a run!
