The awards which is presented by France Football, has been awarded since 1956 to the most outstanding player, annually. However, an agreement was reached between the French organisers and FIFA between 2010 and 2015 in such a way that it is now temporarily merged with the FIFA World Player of the Year. And thus become known as the FIFA Ballon d'Or.
