An Extra Leg...
There is always a need for an extra leg, especially when the planned leg is not sufficient enough to win. An extra leg can be an additional support, an added advantage to the cause but it is always an addendum.
If we look at it from the racing perspective, we can see the additional leg to running an extra mile. This can be done to ascertain the winner in a more direct way, especially when the initial legs ended in a tie.
A good way to look at an extra leg is that it is a saving time where you can make up for your mistake, maybe start over or correct it from where you missed it. But an extra leg is always a good step to take...
