Hello Chess Players!

As you may know, I am participating in the Hivechess Candidates Tournament. This last Friday, I played the first rounds of the tournament.

The games was in the 5+1 time format, and I only played 3 out of 4 rounds due to the odd number of players. Well, in this post I'll briefly comment on my games from my point of view, which is obviously not the ideal POV.

Me as black vs pereu4uwatch (2133)

Here I played what I think is a French Defense starting with e6 and d7-d5. My opponent proposed a lot of trades from the beginning and as I didn't know exactly what to do I accepted them. I think he just didn't care too much as he was sure he would win and opted for simplification to speed up the game. I made some blunders and my opponent had control of the whole game, easily winning the match.

Me as white vs jaki01 (2344)

In this second match I faced another tough opponent. This time I managed to develop the pieces a little more on the board. However, I lost my Light-squared Bishop to a Pawn fork (I have to pay more attention to this). With material disadvantage I still tried something, but actually I only played passively defending my pieces until I lost on time.

Me as white vs Da_k1ng (1343)

That was the worst defeat because the opponent was my level, and.. well.. at least in my head my pieces were better developed: my Rook was on a half-open file (b1), the bishop was aligned with the opponent King and my Knights were good at the game (although the Knight on f3 was pinned).

At this time I was too focused on the Nxf6+ move to then capture opponent Queen, but I knew that for now it would only result in an even exchange. As I was distracted thinking of a way to trap my opponent, I missed the move 1.Nxf6+ gxf6 2. Qxd7 Nxd7 (Bxd7). We would trade material, but I would break the opponent King's defense as well as his Bishop pair.

However, I made the h3 and g2-g4 moves to bother the opponent Light-squared Bishop, which broke my own King's defense. After a few moves and a few more mistakes on my part, the game was lost and I surrendered.

Final thoughts

Well, those were my games for the first rounds. My score is currently 0-3. Losses were expected, but my performance was worse than it should have been. I'm sure I can play better than that and I'll try to be more prepared for this Friday.

That's all!

Thanks and See Ya Later!

Awesomeness 😎 it's so cool you are sharing your ganes here. In the game against jaki I would recommend you to wait a little bit in the move 3 I mean you should delay the d4 move cuz black played a different Sicilian it could be very logical to play 3)d4 but is not the best

Black played the O'Kelly variation and this is a kind of trap

3)c4
3)c3
3)Nc3

Are better options
