Hoy es jornada de descanso en la liga venezolana de beisbol profesional (LVBP) y vamos a checar las estadísticas colectivas, así como los balances de cada equipo, con el propósito de tener una perspectiva respecto al camino que tendrá cada uno de aquí a la finalización del campeonato. Con los resultados de éstas dos últimas semanas, comienza a visualizarse las brechas en la tabla de clasificación. La primera se encuentra entre el líder y el segundo lugar, respecto a quienes le siguen: Águilas y Tigres, parecen encaminados a la postemporada sin despeinarse. Aunque el pitcheo rapaz se encuentra de penúltimo en efectividad, ha sido capaz de aguantar presión en los juegos y la pregunta acá es ¿Diciembre determinará la realidad zuliana?, en tanto los Tigres tienen balance perfecto entre bateo y pitcheo, ya que ocupan en segundo lugar en ambas estadísticas, por lo que acá la pregunta que cabe es ¿Pueden desbancar a las Águilas de la azotea? Y la respuesta es sencilla, si, en cualquier momento los felinos aragüeños serán capaces de encabezar y consolidarse en el campeonato.

     Today’s an off day in the Venezuelan Winter League, so we’re checking the team stats and overall balance sheets to get a feel for how each club’s road looks heading into the stretch run. With the results from the last two weeks, the gaps on the standings board are starting to show. The first one pops between the leader and the runner‑up, compared to the pack chasing them: Águilas and Tigres look like they’re cruising toward the postseason without breaking a sweat. Even though the Águilas’ arms are sitting next‑to‑last in ERA, they’ve managed to hold the line under pressure, and the big question is—will December expose the true Zulian reality? Meanwhile, the Tigres are rocking a perfect balance between bats and arms, ranking second in both categories, which raises the obvious question—can they knock the Águilas off the rooftop? The answer’s straight up: yes, at any moment those Aragua cats can jump to the front and lock down the championship.

     El segundo grupo lo conforman quienes están separados por solo 1 juego y medio, en el meridiano de la tabla. Acá entran: Caribes, Cardenales, Bravos, Tiburones y Leones. Los chicos de Puerto La Cruz, parecieran estar un poco por encima de sus perseguidores, dado que el balance colectivo en pitcheo y bateo es parecido al performance de los Tigres. Sin embargo, tendrán que hacer algo con el bullpen, quienes les han hecho pasar malos ratos, al igual que al resto de los equipos. Cardenales tiene un problema con el bateo oportuno ¿la razón? Son segundos en hombres dejados en las bases dentro de lo que va de zafra. El manager en su desesperación ha movido la alineación sin temblarle la mano (caso Luisangel Acuña) y parece que le está dando resultados, porque los pájaros rojos se han sacudido la mala suerte y comenzaron a remontar la tabla desde la séptima posición hasta la actual cuarta, con una racha de 3 juegos ganados.

      The second pack is bunched up just a game and a half apart, sitting right in the middle of the board. That’s Caribes, Cardenales, Bravos, Tiburones, and Leones. The Puerto La Cruz crew looks a notch above the rest, since their overall mix of arms and bats is close to what the Tigres are showing. Still, they’ve gotta fix that bullpen, which has been giving them headaches—same story across the league. Cardenales are struggling with clutch hitting, and the reason’s clear: they are seconds the league in runners left stranded so far this season. The skipper, desperate to shake things up, has been shuffling the lineup without hesitation (case in point: Luisangel Acuña), and it seems to be paying off. The red birds shook off the bad luck and climbed from seventh place up to fourth, riding a three‑game winning streak.

     Bravos ha caído en las posiciones, aunque todavía juega para .500, con una racha de dos perdidos y balance de 4-6 en sus últimos 10 juegos. Y al igual que los Cardenales, dejan muchos hombres en las bases (de hecho lidera la estadística). De nada te sirve batear mucho si los corredores van a quedar anclados. El problema de los Tiburones de La Guaira tiene que ver con el pitcheo. Son penúltimos de la liga en efectividad y contener las ofensivas contrarios ha sido un dolor de cabeza. Han perdido muchos juegos por ventajas exiguas, es el segundo equipo que más se poncha y también son los segundos que permiten más carreras a sus oponentes. Sus lanzadores son quienes más hits han permitido en el campeonato, así las cosas, será difícil remontar en la clasificación si no controlan las libertades permitidas a los contrarios.

     Bravos have slipped in the standings, though they’re still playing .500 ball, coming off a two‑game skid and a 4‑6 mark in their last ten. Just like the Cardenales, they’re leaving way too many runners stranded—in fact, they lead that stats. Doesn’t matter how many knocks you rack up if the guys on base end up glued there. The Tiburones de La Guaira’s headache is all about pitching. They’re next‑to‑last in ERA and shutting down opposing lineups has been a nightmare. They’ve dropped a bunch of tight games, they’re the second‑most strikeout‑prone squad, and they also rank second in runs allowed. Their arms have given up more hits than anyone else in the league, and with that kind of leakage, it’s tough to see them climbing the board unless they lock down the freebies they’re handing out.

     Los Leones no tienen problemas con el madero (son los líderes del campeonato en ésta estadística por mucho). Sus dolores de cabeza están orientados al pitcheo porque son los últimos en efectividad de los equipos en las estadísticas colectivas. Y así es muy difícil sostener la ventaja que tomas en los juegos. O revisan urgentemente sus granjas o se despiden del campeonato. La última brecha la protagoniza el equipo más popular de Venezuela: Navegantes del Magallanes. La verdad, da tristeza ver a un gran conjunto pasando los tragos amargos que toman los muchachos de Valencia (Yasiel Puig es un triste retrato del pasado y es quien mejor perfila la situación del equipo). Sólo diremos algo: se encuentran a 7 juegos de la azotea y son el único conjunto con balance negativo en casa. Así de mal están.
