Una de las reglas más discutidas entre los puristas del béisbol y los progresistas, ha sido sin dudar la regla del hombre extra en segunda base, cuando los partidos se han extendido más allá de la novena entrada. Aunque tal modificación existía en todos los demás torneos del béisbol desde hace tiempo, las grandes ligas se habían resistido a ello. Pero he aquí que la premura por dar rapidez a los partidos, obligó adoptar algo novedoso y que le imprime una emoción extra a todos quienes participan: público y peloteros.

With men on second and third, the next batter singled and the Pirates put the game up by two runs, resulting in an out on the rubber, the man who tried to score from second base. The Buccaneers' inning would end without major consequences and go ahead to kill the game in the bottom of the tenth.

No ví el juego pero si vi algo en el resumen diario... pues además explicas muy bien lo sucedido en esa última entrada para ambos equipos... aunque no estoy de acuerdo con eso porque vuelvo y te repito este es un nivel profesional y que la MLB, es el máximo! Si eso ayuda a que cambie un poco la cosa o evolucione como dices, será! pero me sigue gustando el béisbol original!
Soy alguien que no le da la espalda al progreso.
La verdad, a mi si me gustó porque se hacían interminables los partidos y el consiguiente trasnocho impedía tener un buen día en la siguiente mañana.
Pero es cuestión de gustos solamente.
Por ahora, creo que sin la regla, las emociones de anoche no se habrían dado.

En lo personal no me gusta la regla del hombre en segunda base en los extrainnings, a pesar de esta ser la tercera temporada consecutiva con esta regla, no me acostumbro a ella.

Si tiene razón, suele ser un poco purista, pero aún así los cambios siempre son positivos como mencionas y más si ayudan a progresar el deporte, solo es cuestión de acostumbrarse a ellos. A veces siempre lo mismo aburre y con el tiempo debe cambiar, por ello le doy la razón en lo que expresa en su comentario.
Interesante, no sabía de esta actualización, claro ya casi ni veo televisión, muy buen artículo hermano, un gusto saber que sigues haciendo gran material.
