Jugando con pasión..! // Playing with passion..! || OPINION

There is less than a month and a half left until the end of the season. At this point, the divisions are beginning to be defined, more by the unattainable advantages that some teams have gained, than by the lack of passion to play of those who still aspire to a post-season berth. Thus, we see the Dodgers, Astros, Yankees, and Cardinals almost ready to travel to the playoffs.

Other teams will have to gamble and either keep the winning streak alive or tighten the pace if they don't want to be left out for the October festival. The Cleveland Rangers and Seattle Mariners are among the latter. Cleveland precariously leads the American League Central division by three games over the slumping Minnesota Twins, the Seattle Mariners cling to the third wild card with a precarious two-and-a-half game lead over the incredible Baltimore Orioles, with the Nauts already out of reach of the Astros in the AL East.

That said, let's just say the Guardians have some margin for error despite the Pyrrhic lead. They can afford to lose some games because the Twins were mired in a six-game losing streak that they cut short last night. That's not the case for Seattle. If they get them out of the wild card their hopes of going to October go up in smoke. It would be very naive to think that they will catch up to the Astros; as it is, every game played is vital.

They have accomplished the mission of beating the Guardians in two of the games in a four-game series that began Thursday night and runs through tomorrow Sunday at T-Mobile Park. Thursday they beat the Guardians 3 runs to 1 on a two-base home run by Mitch Haniger in the very first episode, runs enough because the pitching took care of the Cleveland offense by spacing six hits that produced just one run.

Haniger would repeat the feat yesterday, but the particularity was the way he did it. First, we want to note the passion of outfielder Jesse Winkler and manager Scott Servais in the bottom of the eighth. Good and bad ball counts should never be protested, but both considered the strikeout of Winkler as an outburst from the umpire. Neither were too quick or too lazy to protest, with the resulting ejection.

With the man on second by rule, Haniger hit a hard liner over the second baseman, and with the play on the rubber, the second baseman was sent home-plated by the third base coach. The fielder's throw was terrible and the Nautas left the Guardians on the field. It was a game of giving and take as runs were scored alternately, but it was the boys from the west coast who showed passion.
