Son muchísimas las historias que nos ha traído la implementación del sistema ABS (Automatic Balls & Strikes), en la temporada 2026. Tantas que sería imposible contarlas todas, como -por ejemplo- la finalización de un juego la semana pasada, cuando el último bateador de un partido estaba con la cuenta máxima de 3-2 y el umpire cantó bola para entregar la base por boleto, sólo para tener que cambiar la acción a strike por reto de ABS y obligarse a declarar la finalización del juego. Bueno, ayer sucedió algo extraño en medio del turno del infielder venezolano Ildemaro Vargas en el séptimo episodio, cuando se dispuso en el home plate y le lanzaron el primer pitcheo. El umpire cantó strike con una pelota completamente fuera de la zona e Ildemaro no reaccionó. No sabemos si los bateadores de Arizona tienen vetado el uso del ABS o si el equipo ha dispuesto a alguien con una cámara en el jardín central, pero la interrupción vino desde la banca, por medio del manager Torey Lovullo. Hubo confusión y una pequeña discusión entre el umpire, los coachs y el propio Ildemaro, quien hacía señas a la cueva de que él no había retado el conteo.
