Two schools of baseball face each other in both league pennant battles. Of course, reducing everything we've seen so far in league play to the above paragraph might seem foolhardy. But take a look at both the background and the staging: Astros and Red Sox came to their particular battle at batting point in the American League; on the other hand, Braves and Dodgers ended up playing the series for the National League pennant based on good pitching.

A clear truth hovers over both schools: the average fan likes to see his team giving out hits of all calibers while making fools of opposing hitters with good pitching. But for that to happen, the amount of money in team budgets would have to be astronomical to afford super-million dollar contracts, and the major leagues have a salary cap. If a team goes over that cap, it has to pay a very high tax, which makes it even more difficult to maintain a balanced team, as the fans want.

Having said that, let's review the slates of the games played so far: in the case of the American, the Astros took the first game with a score of 5-4 and the Red Sox scored the second game for their saddlebags 9-5. The sum of both games? 10 runs for the Astros and 13 runs for the Red Sox. 23 runs between them, for God's sake! It looks like batting practice was held on both days. The truth of the matter is that the scales seem to be tipped in favor of the Red Sox, contrary to the assurances of this columnist yesterday.

Venezuelan Luis García was unable to keep Boston at bay yesterday. At the end of the second inning, the boys from New England were already eight runs to zero ahead, the result of two home runs with the bases loaded. That's no way to do it. Houston's pitching problems are magnified when we learn that tomorrow (both teams are resting today) the same guy who started the first game with only three days of rest will start the third game. I don't know about you, but this highlights Houston's big problem (the other starter in the rotation, their ace, was injured).

Meanwhile, further south in Atlanta, the Braves and Dodgers engaged in a pitching duel, where Austin Riley was the hero of the game. First, he homered in the fourth inning to tie the score at two apiece, and then he hit the golden hit in the ninth to put the Dodgers down 3-2. Five runs between the two, too few to have spaced 16 hits between the two teams. Defense and pitching, that's what it's called.

Remember yesterday when we said, if Atlanta had any chance with the Dodgers, it would be to win one of the home games? Well, what was described in yesterday's game was simply a slap in the face for me to respect the game I love so much. I thought the Dodgers would sweep, now I'm not so sure why? Atlanta dominated the Brewers on pitching and yesterday they did the same to the Angels. It has always been saying, "the name of the game is pitching" Ridiculous me.

It's been a while since I enjoyed a postseason as much as I've enjoyed this one. Maybe my responsibilities in front of @fulldeportes have made my love for baseball green again and that's why I'm so excited. What is certain is that I have never felt so full of life again, as when I have been an exceptional spectator of this wonderful season. And even when two schools of baseball are facing each other, each one of them having superiority, I will always prefer the good baseball that is played in the school of the few scores.
