Octavo y noveno... // Eighth and ninth... [ESP/ENG] || OPINION

Nothing better in a ball game, when both teams come into the last innings down or tied and can come from behind. It is the performance of the big leaguers in those key episodes, where the line between an ordinary baseball player is separated from the superstar. The reason? The game situations were resolved with the cold blood of someone aware of his responsibility in the team's battery. Very few manage to fit the spikes for a challenge of that size.

Yesterday we complained about how everything was going for my favorite teams. We were saying that predictions are useless. And last night, we were still headed for the ostracized camp as predictors. Only two ballplayers (one per franchise) had that cold-bloodedness described in the first paragraph. And then some saving lights appeared for their teams as well as for this writer (otherwise, maybe he could be stung to death by bees).

Stung by bees? Yes, the thing is that there is a sequence in installments from the writings and those who follow me, will have understood the joke. All kidding aside, let's check my horses' reactions last night: the Houston Astros went into the eighth episode trailing by one run. If Boston were to win the game, it would put the series at 3-1 and qualify for the World Series in their backyard, Do you understand? The pennant series is played best of 7 games, winning 4 of them. One more win and bye-bye chance in Houston.

Well, the Astros thought differently and wanted to return to the great state of Texas, doing what had to be done: José Altuve booted the ball in the eighth to tie the game and the Astros broke out the bats in the ninth with seven! runs to take the game 9-2. With the victory, they tie the series at 2-2 and secure their return to the old west with horses and all, Isn't it exciting?

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers had their backs against the wall. Down two games in the series, they needed to win at home to make it clear that they would be a tough nut to crack. But come to the eighth inning, it looked like the Atlanta Braves would take a 3-0 lead and the possibility of a sweep. With the score 2-5 against and two men on base, Cody Bellinger took it upon himself to do in the postseason what he didn't do in the playoffs: be the horse he can be. He fished a pitch and sent it into the stands to tie the game, Isn't it beautiful?

In the same episode, Mookie Betts did what he does best and with a double, he put the team ahead 6-5, and the comeback was a fact. Dodger Stadium was falling with the noise of the crowd and it was no wonder. A custom of flapping white towels when the team responds became a spectacle. There is nothing better than seeing your team come back and even more so if that flip of the slate serves to put the series 1-2 and send a message to the opponent.

Altuve has hit little, his average in the series is a pyrrhic .125. But what little he has hit has served as a key to his team's victories. And that's why the guy is a superstar. Homerun in the eighth and bases on balls in the ninth to keep the inning alive, with two scored, says little when you look at the box-score and it says he went 4-1. But make no mistake, Jose Altuve is a man for eighth and ninth innings.

Saludos.
