¿Quién atrapó mejor..? [ESP/ENG] || OPINION
Ayer fueron anunciados los finalistas que entraron en la boleta, para la selección de los ganadores por posición y por liga, de los premios Rawlings al guante de oro temporada 2025. Siete fueron los venezolanos listados como posibles ganadores y ya esto de por sí es un premio ¿La razón? Para llegar a la boleta final, hay una primera selección que se hace puertas adentro y los mismos jugadores y cuerpo técnico eligen sus preferidos. Nada mejor que un reconocimiento entregado por pares. Así las cosas, los nominados criollos se repartieron del siguiente modo: cuatro (4) en la liga Americana y tres (3) en la liga Nacional ¿Curiosidades? Es la primera vez en la historia que dos (2) venezolanos son nominados dentro de una misma liga para la posición de utility, una de las más versátiles en cuanto a defensiva y que dice mucho de el gran talento con el guante de un jugador, de quien un manager puede confiar para mejorar el cuadro o los jardines en los episodios finales, si la ventaja de un juego es mínima.

Why? Because to land on the final ballot, there’s an internal vetting process where players and coaches cast their votes. Nothing beats getting props from your own dugout. So here’s the breakdown: four reps in the American League, three in the National. Fun fact? It’s the first time ever that two Venezuelans got the nod for utility in the same league—a role that screams defensive Swiss Army knife. En la liga Americana fueron propuestos: receptoría, el criollo de los Medias Rojas de Boston Carlos Narváez, quien era el suplente a principios de temporada, pero quien ante la lesión del titular, se apropió de la goma del mítico Fenway Park. Narváez se cansó de reventar hombres en las bases, pero también estuvo fildeando maravillas. Uno quien repite como nominado es Andrés Giménez, segunda base titular de los Azulejos de Toronto (quien le ha tocado cubrir las paradas cortas ante la lesión de Bichette). La espectacularidad de su alcance es proverbial y por ello fue escogido. De los Reales de Kansas City, nos llega como tercera base nominado el criollo Maikel García, quien no solo tuvo una excelente temporada al bate, sino que fue una aspiradora en Kauffman Stadium. Por último, otro media roja, el marabino Wilyer Abreu demostró el cañon del brazo sacando hombres en la goma y en las bases, resultando también la segunda vez en la historia que dos venezolanos de un mismo equipo son nominados al premio.

In the American League, the nominees include Boston Red Sox backstop Carlos Narváez, a guy who started the year as a backup but took over the dish at Fenway once the starter went down—and never looked back. Narváez made a habit of gunning down runners and flashing leather behind the plate. Then there’s Andrés Giménez, back on the ballot again, holding it down at second for the Toronto Blue Jays. With Bichette sidelined, he even slid over to short, and his range? Straight-up highlight reel stuff—that’s why he’s in. From the Kansas City Royals, Maikel García got the nod at third. Not only did he rake all season, but defensively he was a vacuum cleaner at the hot corner in Kauffman. En la liga Nacional, las preferencias de los votantes recayeron en: el receptor venezolano Luis Torrens, titular de los Mets de Nueva York y a quien la gran manzana ha aprendido apreciar por el fusil de sus tiros a segunda base y el fildeo de los toques de pelota, evitando daños ulteriores con avances de corredores en las bases. Los utility del cuadro Miguel Rojas de los Dodgers de Los Ángeles y el sorprendente Javier Sanoja de los Marlins de Florida, completan el septeto criollo como finalistas para el premio Guante de Oro de la MLB éste año. Miguel es un reputado defensor del cuadro y ha servido durante toda la temporada para descansar a los titulares del conjunto esquivador, Sanoja se ganó a pulso el respeto a su guante, dada las intervenciones defensivas en las que se ha visto envuelto, terminando muchas de sus jugadas en los noticiarios por la excelsa defensa mostrada en el Loan Depot Park de Miami.

Rounding out the Venezuelan crew are two infield utility studs: Miguel Rojas of the Los Angeles Dodgers and breakout star Javier Sanoja of the Miami Marlins. Para tomar la decisión final, los 30 managers de las mayores deberán escoger un jugador de los nominados, quien no pertenezca a su propio equipo. El peso de los votos representará el 75% de la probabilidad de elección. El otro 25% del peso en el resultado final, provendrá de unas métricas concentradas en un índice defensivo llamado SABR. Los ganadores serán anunciados por la oficina del comisionado el 02 de Noviembre. La posición de utility comenzó a ser considerada en 2022 ¿Quién está más cerca de los nominados criollos para llevarse la distinción? Tal como lo veo, Wilyer Abreu, Andrés Giménez, Carlos Narváez y Luis Torrens son quienes probablemente puedan llevarse uno.
