Batch 55 Finished, Batch 56 Started, Fix Drawer, Wrestling Practice - Thursday
I was up about 5am yesterday morning and when I walked into the kitchen I glanced at the screen on the freeze dryer and saw that it had 7 hours of the 8 that I had added to the time before going to bed. That meant that it had run normally through the night and only needed an hour to get till I woke up. The chicks were at the post office so I went and got them and let the freeze dryer run for a while longer till I was ready to deal with it.
A little before 9am I got the trays pulled out and they were all perfectly dried. The broccoli held its shape admirably and the ground beef was all fully dried. This batch is for our friend who uses the foods for camping meals for their family of 6.
Thinking of what could be run in the next batch I pulled out 4 pounds each of ground beef and bison and got them in water to thaw in the sink. I don't run the freeze dryer with anything less than a full load of 5 trays and so in order to finish our friend's remaining ground beef I needed 4 trays worth. I intended to get to it and get it cooked up before the evening but didn't manage to do it.
J has had a drawer in his dresser that has been broken for a long time, the face of it came off and broke but I never fixed it. I finally took the time yesterday and fashioned a piece for it to hole it together. I cut a couple little pieces of cedar and nailed them to the bottom and sides then air nailed the shorter front piece on. I'm not looking for it to match in anyway, I just need him able to use the drawer.
It is his jammies drawer so he is able to pull from it without having to open the drawer. Like I said I am after function and he is just happy to have the drawer back in the dresser.
The boys spent a lot of the afternoon around the chicks and playing on the trampoline and in the digging pit.
I got them fed a bit earlier since it was leftovers which gave them time to get ready for practice. They needed to wear their singlets so they could weigh in for tomorrow's tournament. I was a bit amazed, R weighed .1 pound more in the evening than he did first thing in the morning last Saturday and J weighed 1 pound more.
Lots of work on various forms of presses and turns and sliding the arms for the halves.
Then the over neck and under knee to back flop grab which can put them right into the pin position.
R is still having trouble finding his focus like most of the other 5 year olds. As can bee seen in the next few shots.
While I was with the boys at practice @stryeyz cooked up the meats on the stove and began loading the trays. The bottom tray is our friends onion and ground beef mix.
2 trays of our ground beefallo mix.
A tray of broccoli for us and a tray of leftover pasta and almost 2 blocks of diced tofu.
We ended outside as always and I was out around 9pm feeling good and tired.
Today will be making sure the chicks are all good and happy, getting things together for the tournament tomorrow morning, mandolin practice, this evening we have to pickup to Azure order, and then make sure the boys get a god night sleep for tomorrow.

My friend Tom made a comment about a freeze drier a few days ago. It's still on his radar, if not mine...
