Man Utd, PDC, THE BIGGEST SHIT SHOW WRESTLING TOURNAMENT EVER, UFC 299, Fire, Grilling - Saturday

Was up in time yesterday morning to watch the Man UTd match which turned out to be a surprise win in relatively good form. They won 2-0 but still need the teams above them to all fall off a cliff if they have a hope of any standings.

The Belgian darts open continued with day 2 and I caught a bit of the end of the first session before we had to leave for the tournament.

SO, this is what we were greeted with when walking into the gym of the middle school for the wrestling tournament.

What a total shit show of a day and I feel really bad for all the kids as the day just went to hell really quickly.

IMG_20240309_085740.jpg

The story goes off the rails really fast. The tournament was to have 20 schools attending which would have been more than enough kids but another tournament was apparently canceled and the 10 schools from that one got piled atop the 20 we had already. The organizer of the tournament ate his balls and completely fucked the day up along with the school limiting the use of the school to ONLY the gym. 1500 people trying to get their kids wrestling time but a gym built for max 1000 people.

The email had been sent out that doors were to open at 8:30am but apparently at 7:30 there were people showing up and were let in. Those of us that can read showed up closer to the 8:30 time to find the entire gym packed with people. ZERO communication, a single set of restrooms, no PA system just yelling, and far far far too many people.

It was an hour late when they FINALLY got the computers all setup for scoring and managed to get matches going. Trackwrestling online is supposed to make the tournament go WAY smoother but these people managed to fuck it all up. R got lucky that he is on the lighter side of his age group so he was assured to get at least one match in for the day. There was a bunch of people who walked into the gym and just turned around and went home.

We got him to his mat and his match managed to start.

The amount of noise in the gym was insane as the matches were going and the boys could barely hear the coaches.

R did good and got a number of reversals and a few take downs before they went outside the bounds of their area and were brought back in to keep going.

They started again it was a mass of reversals as they wrestled. R ended up being the slightly stronger one which allowed him to be a bit more in control of the match.

I get the refs are all kids and learning but they do need a bit more training for being able to correctly do their "jobs". The chaos of the place made it even harder for everyone to stay focused.

R ended up on the bottom for the next part of the match which worked out in his favor as he was able to get a fast reversal and then pinned the other kid.

It was 10:50am when he won his match and the tournament was to have started at 9:30.

IMG_20240309_105012.jpg

Then about 15 minutes later the fire marshal showed up and made the place empty down to 500-ish people due to only 2 exits. The school was being stupid in only letting the tournament have access to the gym, the director was a complete asshole for just saying yes to everything when he damn well should have been saying NO to just about everything and everyone.

So the gym emptied and they decided to get the 5/6 year olds all to wrestle then they would go to the 7/8 year olds and so on. So we sat outside and waited for a while. After an hour I walked to the doors and looked into the gym to see NOT ONE SINGLE match going. People milling about the mats, kids practicing, but no matches going. I turned around and we left the waste of time tournament.

Our friends stayed and said that it got to the point that they were just putting anyone on the mats to wrestle. When they finally got to the 7/8 year olds they lined them up by size then paired them off because most of the kids had left due to the tournament being so fucked up. It was truly a horrid tournament and SO MANY kids did not get to wrestle. We were lucky that R got his one match in.

IMG_20240309_113342.jpg

So we drove home and the rest of the day was spent recuperating from the immersion in the mass of people energy. Most of the people in that gym were frustrated and it was apparent by the energy of the place. That was a bit like getting engulfed in a tidal wave and it took us the afternoon to dry off from it.

The Belgian open was still on when we got home so I got to see the last couple matches. The boys played on their devices to while away the time then I put on 3 episodes of Gold Rush White Water until I turned it over to UFC 299.

IMG_20240309_134835.jpg

Around 5pm I got the fire going in the pit and let it burn to good coals as it got dark and the fights were going on.

IMG_20240309_171044.jpg

There were some seriously fast fights. One was 18 seconds, another was 10 seconds into the 2nd round. It was a bit later when I got our burgers on to grill as the boys took a while to get the potatoes cooking in the air fryer.

IMG_20240309_184238.jpg

As the Holland fight came on I went out to soak and watched it on my phone.

IMG_20240309_202500.jpg

It was great to see Poirier get the knock out and I was SO hoping Chito would win but he got his ass handed to him.

Useless time change puts me back on normal farmer time again. It's raining today which will melt the last of the snow off hopefully, Belgian open finishes today, Liverpool/City match is on this morning, I should wash my clothes, water the greenhouse plants, prep the brooder hut for the turkey chicks, then this evening I will grill again while it is likely to still be raining.
