Today i found out that Edson Arantes do Nascimento or better known as King Pele has left this earthly plane after losing his fight against colon cancer.
I know that many are and will be talking about Pelé in the coming days, but i would like this to be a small memorial to his memory from me.

El día de hoy me he enterado que Edson Arantes do Nascimento o mejor conocido como el Rey Pelé ha abandonado este plano terrenal después de perder la lucha contra el cáncer de colon.
Sé que muchos están hablando y hablarán de Pelé en los siguientes días, pero quisiera que este fuese una pequeña conmemoración a su memoria de mi parte.
It is sad news for soccer and sports fans in general, as those who followed his career will know that many personalities from different sports were able to shake his hand, receive his jersey, a ball or a signed ball from him. One example is the Venezuelan baseball player Luis Aparicio who was able to share moments with him.
Es una triste noticia para los amantes del fútbol y del deporte en general, pues los que siguieron un poco su carrera sabrán que muchas personalidades de distintos deportes, lograron darle la mano, recibir su camiseta, un balón o bola de su parte firmada. Un ejemplo es el pelotero venezolano Luis Aparicio que logró compartir momentos con él.

Who would have thought that a nickname that started as a mockery for not being able to pronounce the nickname of the goalkeeper of one of his favorite teams as a child, Vasco da Gama, would become so well known. At the age of 4, playing goalkeeper he called him Pile, but it was Bile. His friends mockingly called him Pelé and thus the mythical name was born.

Quién diría que un sobrenombre que comenzó como una burla por no poder pronunciar bien el apodo del guardameta de uno de sus equipos favoritos de niño el Vasco da Gama se volvería tan reconocido. A los 4 años de edad, jugando a ser el arquero él le llamaba Pile, pero era Bile. Sus amigos en torno de burla lo nombraron Pelé y así nació el mítico nombre.
His soccer was very different from the one we know today. All his titles were with more local teams, most of them with Santos (1956-1974) and then the New York Cosmos (1975-1977), however, this did not limit him to beat the best clubs of the time. His retirement match was played at the age of 36 and he was given the pleasure of playing for both teams in a match played between the Cosmos and Santos, playing the first half for the Cosmos with whom he scored a goal and the second half with Santos, although he was unable to score for the latter. Su partido de retiro lo jugó a los 36 años y le dieron el placer de jugar para ambos equipos en un partido que se jugó entre el Cosmos y el Santos, jugando el primer tiempo para el Cosmos con quién marcó gol y el segundo tiempo con el Santos aunque con este no pudo marcar. He notado que existe discrepancias de acuerdo a la cantidad de juegos en los que participó y los goles que realizó, pero el promedio que veo varía entre 1363 -1367 partidos y unos 1279 – 1283 goles en toda su carrera, una cifra increíble. Sin embargo, un recuento posterior de la FIFA lo ubica con 757 goles en partidos oficiales.
El hecho de que su carrera la desarrollara localmente y tuviera tal influencia en el mundo, sin tener que jugar en un equipo europeo, jugar y vencer a sendas leyendas como Di Stefano, Eusebio, Gianni Rivera, Puskas, Beckenbauer, Garrincha, Perfumo, Bobby Moore, Faccheti, Dino Zoff, Bobby Charlton. Nombres que perduran en la historia del fútbol, es algo sorprendente, algo de leyenda. Muy parecido a la historia que vemos en nuestra actualidad con nombres como Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappé, Haaland, Lewandowski, Benzema… jugadores luchando por ser el mejor de todos.
Les diré que es muy difícil comparar a jugadores de aquella época con los de esta nueva era. Sé que Pelé sufrió mucho en los campos del juego, antes el fútbol estaba dándose a conocer “estaba en pañales” no habían tantas reglas que cuidaran a los jugadores y creo que él se llevó el desafío más difícil. Una prueba de esto, está en la “encerrona” para lesionar a Pelé y eliminar a Brasil del mundial de Inglaterra 1966. Hay diversos videos en las redes donde se ven las palizas que le propinaban al jugador brasileño. Creo que muy pocos jugadores aguantaran tal castigo y llegaran a tener la talla del Rey Pelé.
Pero, como están esos videos donde se muestra las dificultades y los retos que debe afrontar un atleta para alcanzar sus objetivos, también están esos videos donde la genialidad y el trabajo extenuante rinden frutos. Seguramente habrán visto muchos videos de Pelé y es que algo que lo caracterizaba no era solo hacer goles sino su desenvolvimiento con el balón en sus pies, sus regates, su forma de llevarse al adversario.
This player has been and i am sure will remain for a long time a yardstick of comparison. Every player who aspires to be the best in history will have this enormous weight on his back. Even if he doesn't want it, the media and we ourselves will be the ones who will propose the comparison and I am sure that after some time this legend will grow and it will be more difficult to surpass him.
Este jugador ha sido y estoy seguro seguirá siendo por mucho tiempo una vara de comparación. Todo jugador que aspire ser el mejor de la historia tendrá a este enorme peso en su espalda. Así no lo quiera, los medios y nosotros mismos seremos los que propondremos la comparación y estoy seguro que pasado el tiempo esta leyenda se acrecentará y más difícil será superarlo.
Not long ago, for many Messi was the best in history when he won the coveted world title with Argentina's national team and today the memory of Pele, his game, his three World Cups and his fights, i think make it a little more difficult for any player to define him without thinking of him as the best in history. Pelé has set the bar very high and day after day his legend will be raising that bar. Hace poco, para muchos Messi era el mejor de la historia logrando el ansiado título del mundo con la selección de Argentina y hoy el recuerdo de Pelé, su juego, sus tres copas del mundo y sus luchas, creo que hacen un poco más difícil que cualquier jugador lo definan sin pensar como el mejor de la historia. Pelé ha dejado la vara muy en el alto y día tras día su leyenda irá subiendo esa vara. Esto no está mal, esto solo impulsará a los jugadores a ser mejores de lo que ya son, llevará al hombre a ser más rápido, más fuerte y más preciso que nunca. La leyenda de Pelé, nos seguirá motivando a querer buscar más y mejores cosas dentro de este hermoso deporte y por supuesto fuera de él. Claro, esto está muy sujeto al sentimentalismo del momento, así que esto lo dejo como mi humilde opinión.

Pelé, la camisa número 10 te estaba esperando junto a muchos de tus amigos y rivales, también están tus ídolos y tu padre a quién le prometiste un mundial. Podrás decirle ahora frente a frente que sus lágrimas no fueron en vano y que la promesa que le hiciste algún día de ganar un mundial la cumpliste y como pequeño guiño le dirás lo hice 3 veces, los dos, seguro se reirán un montón y ahora con tu padre recuperado de su lesión, podrás jugar junto a él. Nunca en la tierra se vio tu juego tan majestuoso, estás muy feliz porque tu padre está junto a ti y tus rivales ya no quieren hacerte daño porque la competencia pasó a ser un juego auténtico de diversión. En el descanso, le contarás sobre tu madre a tu padre y le dirás que está muy bien, recordarás a tus hijos y llorarás un poco porque ya no estás con ellos y porque están triste por tu partida, pero tu papá te ensañará a velar por ellos tal y como él lo hizo contigo.

I was sad when I saw the news, Pele will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to play football, may his soul rest in peace.
The loss of Pelé was really very hard for those of us who love this sport.
