Folks,

Suspend your disbelief for a moment and join me in this thought...

Imagine that one day we all woke up to the inexplicable discovery that the Sun

Sol

The Daystar

The centre about which our solar system rotates

That fiery ball of life-sustaining stellar nucleosynthesis

Imagine we learnt that it was, in reality, a sentient being

That it could communicate with us

And in fact, that it had been trying to for a long time

...

Imagine that we were too ignorant to understand this

^{_{Not much of a stretch to be honest}}

And that it had been waiting patiently for the day we finally developed to the point where we could

And then imagine, having witnessed the way we humans act upon our little blue-green planet

And within our petty gray-black economies

The Sun decided that it too was going to start charging for it's service

The service it provides to the Earth's biosphere

And if the hordes of hairless apes living on that planet

Those creatures so hopelessly and arrogantly dependent upon the warmth and light it tirelessly provides, failed to pay up

Then it would go somewhere else in the unfathomably large cosmic marketplace

And sell it's service to another client species that were willing to pay a fair price

...
