Pushed my heart rate to 181... my training diary entry from February 17 2026

(On our way back down to the valley, we had to cross countless ski slopes. Skiers and snowboarders were slalom-riding around us, which was sometimes a little scary.)

Hi Actifitters,

while yesterday's report mentioned a heart rate of 174, I can already top that today. After extensive stretching and a 20-minute warm-up on the bike, I rode the second live race of my Zwift career. In total, just over 150 drivers took part and I simply wanted to test myself, to give it my all in order to achieve the best possible placement.

It quickly became clear to me that I couldn't even begin to compete at the very front. After the first few kilometers, however, it became apparent that a top 50 finish was probably possible.

So that became my goal from then on. From time to time, I managed to fight my way up into the top 30. However, there were numerous riders who had paced themselves well and left me behind as we approached the finish. Suddenly, I found myself in 54th place with only one kilometer to go. So I gave it my all once more and actually managed to cross the finish line in 50th place with a heart rate of 181.

What's possible in terms of training today remains to be seen. I have an appointment with the orthopedist this morning to have my shoulder examined. Ultimately, I want to be able to do muscle training pain-free again someday. I have another appointment this afternoon. So, it's possible that I won't get much exercise today. We'll see.
