Neck pain, poor sleep, and lots of elevation gain... my training diary entry from February 22 2026

(I photographed this historic railway bridge on my way to the Bavarian Forest. If I'm not mistaken, a forest railway still runs there today.)
Hi Actifitters,
since my neck pain severely limits my ability to train, yesterday's training was limited to a few stretching exercises for the legs and two cycling sessions.
One of the two cycling sessions was quite challenging. In addition to a few climbs during the race, the course finished with a steep ascent of about 3 kilometers. My legs hadn't experienced anything like that before, and it turned into a mental battle. In the end, I climbed 588 meters in altitude.
I was quite out of breath when I finally made it. Funnily enough, even as I was coasting to a stop, I decided I would ride another stretch, albeit one with very little elevation gain.
So yesterday I covered 60 kilometers, which means I cycled a total of 160 kilometers on Saturday and Sunday. Since another goal for this year is to cycle 200 kilometers in one go, this was a step (or rather, a pedal stroke) in the right direction.
Here are some figures from the climbing session:
Duration - 1:31:27
Distance - 38.01 km
Elevetaion gain - 588 m
Average speed - 24.9 km/h
Maximum speed - 67.6 km/h
Average power output - 184 watts
Maximum power output - 588 watts
Average heart rate - 139 bpm
Maximum heart rate - 174 bpm
Average cadence - 95
Maximum cadence - 140
I don't feel it at all right now, but I'll probably hop back in the saddle for a bike ride soon. We'll see how far I can motivate myself after another pretty awful night.
