La temporada 2022 de la Copa NASCAR ya concluyó, dejando como campeón a Joey Lagano del auto Ford número 22 de equipo Penske, luego de un campeonato que nos dejó carreras espectaculares que quedarán en la historia. Ya esta categoría vuelve para el mes de Febrero de 2023, aunque siempre se hacen pruebas de pretemporadas para probar los autos y los neumáticos que se usarán en la temporada, aunque esto es para otro artículo donde les hablaré de lo nos espera la próxima temporada. Lo que si es cierto es que este campeonato nos dejó grandes números, carreras que nunca podremos olvidar, aunque también situaciones que para nada se deben destacar, así el día de hoy les traigo un resumen de lo que fue esta temporada 2022 de NASCAR, analizando cada uno de los detalles que vimos y dando una opinión de cuales cosas se podría cambiar para mejorar el espectáculo de la serie.

En cuanto a número finales Logano no fue el mejor de la temporada, aunque sí estuvo entre los mejores 10 en cada una de las estadísticas. Joey fue segunda con la mayor cantidad de victorias al lograr ganar en 4 ocasiones, donde la última fue en la carrera más importante, la finalísima en Phoenix, pero lo más destacado de todo es que dominó la carrera, teniendo el mejor auto, ganando así se segundo campeonato en la Copa NASCAR. Logano es un piloto bastante rápido, uno de los mejores que podemos encontrar, tanto así que fue quien logró la mayor cantidad de poles con 4 al igual que Christopher Bell con la misma cantidad. Por otro lado también fue segundo en la cantidad de vueltas lideradas con 784, sexto en tops 5 con 11, 5 en tops 10 con 17 y un promedio de finales de las carreras de 13.5, que lo más impresionante de todo de este último dato es que nadie estuvo por debajo de los 10 de promedio. ¿El campeonato fue merecido? obviamente que sí, ya que dejo muy buenos números que le dieron la oportunidad de luchar por su título en Phoenix y no la supo desaprovechar. Este es un piloto que tiene mucho talento y sin lugar a dudas será uno de los pilotos referentes activos con más experiencia de la máxima división de NASCAR.

En segundo lugar encontramos al mejor piloto de la temporada regular, Chase Elliott, quien fue el campeón de esta instancia y quien era el favorito para el campeonato, pero las cosas no se le dieron como se pensaba. En mi opinión este era el piloto que debía ganar el campeonato, pero por el formato de las eliminatorias las cosas no se le dieron, así que culminó bastante decepcionado. Las 5 carreras ganadas fueron en Dover, Nashville, Atlanta, Pocono y Talladega.

Este piloto sabemos que tiene un gran talento, esto se veía desde las categorías semilleros y las dos divisiones nacionales previa a la máxima división, pero en esta temporada fue el más destacado del equipo Joey Gibbs Racing, incluso por encima de Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch y Martin Truex Jr, pilotos que tienen mucho más experiencia que Bell, pero este supo aprovechar las oportunidades y lucho por este título en la final, siendo el único de su equipo. Christopher Bell fue quien logró la mayor cantidad de pole con 4, junto al campeón Logano. Fue tercero en cuento a ganes con 3 (sus victorias fueron en New Hampshire, Charlotte y Martinsville, donde las últimas dos fueron en estas eliminatorias). Además de ello obtuvo 12 tops 5, 20 tops 10, lideró 573 vueltas y su promedio de carreras finalizadas fue de 13.8. Bell es un piloto con un muy futuro que tiene pinta de ser uno de los campeones de los próximos años y quien le puede dar bastante alegrías a su equipo, esperemos que esto finalmente esto suceda, es un conductor que lo merece y quien cuenta con muy poco años de experiencia en la Copa NASCAR a sus 28 años de edad.

Otro piloto que debo destacar y hacer una mención especial es Ross Chastain, donde obtuvo 2 ganes, 15 tops 5, 21 tops 10, 692 vueltas lideradas y 6 etapas ganadas. Este piloto también fue uno de los 4 finalistas, así que tiene que estar entre los mejores. Pero lo que más hay que destacar y lo que siempre quedará para la historia es su maniobra en Martinsville donde estaba quedando fuera de los mejores 4 y adelantó a 5 pilotos en las últimas dos curvas tras irse contra el número y nunca soltar el acelerador, lo cual le dio un gran impulso que incluso nadie lo podía creer lo que había sucedido. Otra mención especial es para el mexicano Daniel Suárez y compañero de equipo de Chastain quien este demostró de que estaba hecho, logró su primera victoria en la Copa NASCAR y de esta forma aseguro su estancia en la serie por varias años. Fue una muy buena temporada para Suárez.

El primero es Kyle Larson quien quedó eliminado en la ronda de 12, esto fue tan sorpresivo que salió en todas las notas deportivas del mundo en cuando al deporte motor se refiere, ya que tras dominar la anterior temporada y ganar el campeonato de la forma que lo hizo, esto nunca se nos pasó por la mente. Claro que su temporada no fue la más destacadas de todas, pero nunca debemos dejar por fuera a este piloto. El segundo piloto fue Kyle Busch quien tuvo la peor temporada que le hemos visto desde que está en NASCAR, varias carreras sin nisiquiera quedar entre los 10 mejores, varios eventos donde queda fuera de la carrera, la verdad es que fue bastante penoso para él. Mucho se estuvo especulando entorno a la temporada de Busch y es que al parecer se cree que hubo un sabotaje en el motor de sus autos, ya que se rumoraba que este piloto no iba a continuar con JGR ni con Toyota, pero con esos malos resultados los rumores se terminaron combirtiendo en realidad y Kyle Busch se cambió de equipo para la próxima temporada 2023, pero de ello les hablaré en un próximo post.

Esta temporada 2022 de NASCAR fue muy buena, donde tuvimos 19 ganadores distintos durante la temporada, siendo este un récord o al menos no había pasado que en lo personal recordara. Otro dato importante es que en las primeras 7 carreras ganaron pilotos distintos y quien vino a quebrar esta racha fue William Byron al repetir victoria en la primera carrera de Martinsville tras ganar previamente en Atlanta. Las expectativas para esta temporada eran grandes ya que se estrenaba un nueva auto de la séptima generación pero la verdad es que los cambios implementados sí que valieron la pena ya que el entretenimiento de los espectadores mejoró bastante desde la último años, las carreras no tuvieron tantas banderas de precaución como en el pasado, aunque claro que si hay sus excepciones. Algo negativo que vi fue algunos problemas de neumáticas en algunas de las carreras de las eliminatorias, es algo que se debe estudiar para que no pase nuevamente ya que perjudico a varios de los contendientes al título. En fin este 2022 de la Copa NASCAR fue una de las mejores que vi en cuanto a la última generación de pilotos. Esperemos que la próxima sea mejor, ya que siempre hay cosas que se puede mejorar.

Anyway, this 2022 NASCAR Cup was one of the best I saw in terms of the last generation of drivers. Hopefully the next one will be better, as there are always things that can be improved.
