Happy midweek. Today's my off day. Thinking of making every Wednesday my off day since they've implemented a compulsory off day system. Ghana law states that you work 40 hours a week. We work 12 hours a day and if we do it for a week, it will sum up to 60 hours a week. That means we will have 20 hours of overtime. With this compulsory off day system, you come for 12 hours a day for 4 days. In the end, you do 48 hours and they only pay for 8 hours overtime in a week. There are laws against working more than a 10 hour work day in Ghana so they are paying you for the extra 2 hours you do in a day. The normal work hours have now become 10 hours a day. Smart thinking from HR, bad system for workers. Time will tell how long they can sustain this. High unemployment rates make companies "rule" over workers and the government doesn't intervene. It is well.
