Knee D-day (again)!

Well at the end of January the oldest son did torn one of his knee ligaments during a football game. The ligament wasn’t completely torn but for around 90%.

The orthopedic surgeon didn’t want to operate back then because the growing disk in the knee was still to open. And apparently when replacing this ligament they do screw it into the growing disk.
So it was recovering with the physiotherapist twice a week.
Today is the new visit at the surgeon. First a x-ray scan had to be taken from the left knee to check the growing disk than we have to head over to the surgeon.

There are 3 possible options.
The best one is that the ligament did heal itself enough so that he can start playing football again. But the chances on this or slim to none existing.
Probably the best outcome is that the growing disk did close enough so that he can operate. After this there will be a new revalidation of around 6 months.
The worst option is that he decides to wait longer with the surgery which would be a mental drama.
In that case I will probably ask to declare him fit enough to play again. The idea behind this is that the other muscles in his knee should take over the functions of the ligament. In the worst case the ligament will torn completely and surgery is needed but in this option surgery is always needed!

So yes, a little bit nervous here! Hoping that he can start his real recovery or just play the game again!
As parent we do need to have the bigger picture in mind, which also includes the mental health of a 14 year old boy!

Cheers,
Peter

Fingers crossed for a cull recovery going forward!

I like how Hive can act as a place to write and share these things which I'm sure brings some kind of stress release.

It for sure does. Surgery is planned now on the 9th of November after that a revalidation between 6 and 8 months is expected. So another lost season.

Terrible having to deal with this and hope things turn out well as ligaments are not an easy fix.
