Hello Sports & Football Fans! The season 2022/2023 is very young and yet we already can see some tendencies as well as some very surprising results that early in the season. This motivated me to talk about some of the more surprising facts and stats that have occurred in this young season so far! We will talk about match results, individual players as well as general team performances. With that being said, I am very aware that the current status and tendency does not mean anything as the season is still in its baby-crip. Nevertheless, it is always interesting to debate the early stages!

Bayern More Dangerous Without Lewy

Let’s start with a tendency that is both surprising but also probably obvious as well. If you would have asked me who the big favorite in this Bundesliga season is, 9 out of 10 people would have suggested FC Bayern Munich. With mega transfers like de Ligt and Mane, they definitely made their squad stronger. On the other hand they also gave away one of the best, if not the best, striker in Europe (joined with Benzema): Robert Lewandowski.

Not only was this transfer a little messy, as Lewy seemed to force this deal, but it was also surprising for FC Bayern Munich to be that in transparent about this transfer. After Lewandowski left Bayern Munich was expected to have a lot of trouble in their attacking force. After all, they just lost their number 9 and one out of two “real” strikers in their squad. With Mane coming in, you could not really count this as a real successor to the number 9 position as I would interpret him more as a winger.

Some experts In the Bundesliga were even predicting Bayern having a very bad start, as the new faces will need time to integrate into the team as well as the young coach Nagelsmann not only having the right tactical solutions to the team’s problem. Despite all of this noise around the team, Bayern Munich managed to stay clear in the head and managed to deliver the best start in the Bundesliga. With 9 points and a goal difference of 15:1 they are yet again tearing this league apart.

Bremen’s Wonder Come-Back In Dortmund

Staying in the Bundesliga we need to talk about the title contender Borussia Dortmund. They were most hyped in the pre-season as the new title winner. With great and smart transfers such as Niklas Süle from Bayern Munich or Schlotterbeck from Freiburg, they defiantly made some great transfers to stabilize their defense. Furthermore, they definitely have a creative attacking force and added more young and interesting players to the squad.

With that being said their start was also very promising until the last 6 minutes of their last game. In the third leg of the Bundesliga, they were playing the newly promoted Werder Bremen that had 2 points so far. It was the 89th minute and Dortmund was up front with 2 goals. Easy win, right? Well not quite. Bremen managed to score three goals in the span of 6 minutes and take all three points away from Dortmund.

While this is not a rarity in the Premier League, it certainly is in the Bundesliga. Bremen managed to do something that was not done in 50 years in the Bundesliga and is therefore a very surprising result to me. Not only surprising but also very heroic from Bremen. This team will certainly give us much fun in the future, I am very much sure about that.

Arsenal & Leeds On Top

From Germany we move over to Great Britain and the British Premier League. We really need to talk about some stuff here. Frist of all we need to give some applause to the teams of the hours. Both Arsenal and Leeds managed to achieve a great start. Especially Arsenal is very surprising as they always struggled to perform in the beginning of the year! But this time around they are really not letting it slip in the beginning. It really much looks like arsenal could be in for a Top 4 finish, or do they even have a potential to compete with Man City for the title? I guess we will see how they will perform against the top teams!

On the other hand we have Leeds. From struggling in the last season and saving themselves from relegation in the last game, they are now outperforming themselves! I guess the most surprising score they had so far was the 3-0 win against Chelsea! I don’t think that anybody would have expected that from this team and I am very curious about their journey in this season.

Liverpool Struggling Hard

We are staying in the Premier League and switching from top of the table to the bottom of the table where we find nobody other than Liverpool. After three games the reds only have 2 points on their record and it does not look very pretty for them. Two draws against Palace and Fulham followed by a loss against Manchester United! Yes you heard it right against the most embarrassing team of the past few seasons!

This makes me doubt my choice for the next game of the @blanchy ‘s Last Man standing. I really hope that Klopp will get his team together and that they will perform well at home against Bournemouth. After all, who things that Liverpool will not win 4 games in a row? I think it is clear that their new signings need a little bit of extra time since it is very hard to compensate losses like Mane. Nevertheless, if you want to compete for the title you should be able to win those games!

United’s Squad

Last but not least we have this weird team from Manchester. No I am not talking about City, I am talking about the Red Devils. Why are they weird to me? Well, the pre season showed some great results and some signings were very promising. Not only that but their attacking force has a lot of talent in my opinion. With Bruno, Sancho and Rashford they definitely have enough quality up front. (Let’s not forget Ronaldo!)

With the new coach there was a lot of hope that there will be more discipline and more desire in this squad but the first games were just shocking. Both were lost in a not acceptable manner and that is why ten Haag needed to react. He finally took out Maguire and Shaw which immediately transferred the squad. It is really surprising to me how a small change can make so much difference.

In this said game, they immediately were able to perform well and show that they can play “f*cking football”. Not only that but they also announced another great signing in Casemeiro from real Madrid. I think this could be one of the most surprising transfers in this window as it was out of nowhere for me. ManU is heavily overpaying for this player but I guess they will hope to get more stability through the Brazilian Center-Mid. I guess Manchester United will always be good for a surprise through out the season.

There's absolutely no team right now in the Bundesliga that can stand up to Bayern. They're miles ahead of everyone and are just going to stroll to the title. The real challenge will be to see how they compete in Europe

And then the EPL never disappoints when it comes to shocks and surprises. Don't be surprised if united draw or lose to Southampton this weekend. That lot are a bunch of frustration
