Football Is Hell Right Now!

Am I the only one who is getting sick of the Nations League Games? In my opinion we have currently a oversaturation of football on the global stage and there are apparently plans to make it even worse. In this article I will explain why I feel this way and what the possible reasons for this trend could be. Feel free to let me know in the comments whether you feel the same way or whether you wish to see even more football

Current Schedule

So the current football season is over. We saw some amazing stories, great championship fights and breathtaking finals. There was drama, emotion and a lot of people enjoyed the past season a lot. But now the unwanted Nations League is being played and I am really getting the feeling of: Is this really necessary? Who wants to watch this kind of football?

Let me trace back a bit: I feel like the fans are being really oversaturated with football over the past decade. New trophies were invented, new tournaments were founded and even a Super League was in the talks. We currently have three European Championships, several league cups, the normal divisions, the Club World Cup and now the very young Nations League. It would not surprise me if we would see a Championship for clubs who got relegated over the last season to see the “biggest loser”.

Not only that but the match times are very well coordinated and if you plan your week correctly, you could be able to watch football every single day and if you are real hard core even the whole weekend. It start off with Friday, when the first division games are being played, which continues through until Monday when the last ones are being played. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday we have the Champions League followed by the Europa League and the newly formed Conference League. I know it is a real cool thing to have the ability to watch football every single day, but come one! Really?

Now that the Season is over, you might think, about having a break but no! The UEFA must provide its fans more football with this senseless form of nations football: Then Nations League. Nobody really cares about this monster of a tournament and I think that the players and coaches do not really care either. National teams are always horrific to watch at because of the lack of chemistry inside the teams. It is a lot of fun watching them fight during big tournaments like the World Cup as every game could be your last and as a fan you will forgive every mistake, but in a senseless and boring Nations League it is just pure horror to watch this unattractive football.

Another important point to consider here is that some player are really playing their 50th game of the season. This is really a lot and thinking back to the Premier League coaches who were talking about their poor players it all makes sense! Yes they are professionals but they are also just humas. Their bodies can not take these infinite pressure spikes and we already saw a lot of injuries due to overstress.

Football & Fans Need A Break

Bu why do we have a situation like this currently? I think the answer is very obvious: Money. There are a lot of people at power right now who are caring ore about their wages and profit then for the attractiveness of the game of football. They see players as resources and clubs and coaches as their pawns. They are making more deals with different broadcasters to get the most money and are not really distributing the money fairly. The equation is fairly simple: the more games are being played the more money is to be made.

I must admit that clubs and players are at fault as well. The rising wages and the exorbitant amounts that are being paid at the transfer market are certainly not easing the current problems in European football. Let’s also not forget about all of the staff especially the advisors of the players who are always getting a big pay check when a player transfers from one big club to another.

The worst part about this development is that the people that these prices are getting passed on are the actual fans of the sport! The ticket prices are rising to an insane orbit. The jerseys of your favorite players are now over a 100 USD. I remember the time when you could get them for around 50! But the worst part is what I already mentioned before: I am truly sick of football right now. How could I? It is such a beautiful game, so simple, so emotional and full of joy. But with recent years and the oversaturation I feel like I am losing interest.

Good old days

I remember the times where waiting for a big tournament was actually a big thing and the tournament’s games were each a small little festival where fans from different countries could make friendships and exchange cultures. These times were when the players were giving their all for their clubs and when winning the national division was a true conquest and not and every day thing. It was one in two trophies that players could win and if you win it you could qualify to play against the best of Europe. There was literally no other way to qualify! There was no “losers” European Champion aka Europa League and what the Conference League is, I am still struggling to understand!

I really crave for the good old times where every break was a true break and everybody involving in football could reenergize, take a breath and prepare foe the new season. Instead we are getting fed with boring and emotions football that is the most unnecessary thing in the world right now.

Like I mentioned in the beginning, feel free to let me know what you think of the current state of football! 😊

I believe you have very salient points there. Too much money in the game is destroying football. But I think the nations league was supposed to foster competition instead of just having boring friendlies.

It was supposed to make the national teams more serious about these matches. Personally I don't mind watching football everyday, but I think the problem is that the quality has dropped due to expansion to accommodate minnows.

If there's a way they can maneuver to make the quality better, then the nations league is okay for me. But the conference league is what I don't understand

My friend, I simply don't understand what the Nations League is about and what it is all about. I have seen some games and the truth is that they have seemed so boring that I have seen only the first half, empty stadiums, players who seem to be tired of the whole season and want and need a rest.

They want to exploit to the maximum the image of the players and get money, all this is just for. Money
