Bad Habits | Good Music

wwJJ02_s (2).jpeg

I was asked a few days ago about bad habits and specifically which bad habits I thought were very damaging but easily rectified...with ownership and discipline. You'll find them below and and a little below them is some music I like and figured I'd share.

  1. Waking up late: This steals time away from people and nurtures laziness. Get the fuck up and go live life, you don't get a second chance at it.
  2. Focus on things that cannot be controlled: Seriously? Expend energy on those things that are within your ability to affect and let the uncontrollable things go.
  3. Associating with the wrong people: Fly with the eagles, don't stay on the ground with the turkeys, the turkeys have nothing to offer you.
  4. Inability to say no: Your life is yours, own it and say no to those who want to waste it with their fuckassery, you deserve better.
  5. Failing to understand you'll die: Ignoring this can lead to complacency so realise it, acknowledge it then move on with life rather than floating through life oblivious to the fact it's passing you by.

Oh man I bloody hate waking up late, like there's people waking up at 10-10,30 that's like the whole morning wasted... I can understand if you went sleep late like at 2-3 am because you have done something, but if you go at a normal sleep time... I set an alarm to wake up at most at 8,00 am

The point 3 applies since teenage time tbh

I would add waste time in useless stuff, like stay 1 hour in the bathroom because you are scrolling Facebook...

I like zac brown the most, suits good for Saturday

Life is too precious to waste much of it...early up is the way to go for most of the days if the week.

All your points are valid, but I may wake up late if I slept late due to work. Body needs rest you know but not turning that into an habit. That, I believe is very bad.

Completely off topic - need to put a hive t-shirt on that sculpture with a QR code.

Very true and positive points you have listed above. The 5 points you listed above is very important if a person wants to progress in life.

Great 👍 points @galenkp

If you only knew how much the second point cost me in the past... I used to get upset about things I couldn't do anything about, then I realised it was a waste of valuable time. It took me a lot to change that point, but I did it. And the third... my brother always tells me that. Lately, I've been making changes like that, leaving behind people who were only holding me back from my goal and surrounding myself with people who inspire me.

I don't usually listen to that kind of music, but... I really liked the last one, it's great! 😃Thank you!

Yeah, I know you only listen to certain music like Richard Clayderman (who is dead I think) and don't really open up to much else at all.

Could he be dead? Well, I don't know, right now I'm listening to this while I write...

Among the bad habits mentioned, I do not approve of waking up late. If we sleep early and wake up early, we can get more use out of our time. If we can get more time in the morning, we can get more work done because we have energy in the morning. Sleeping late is not productive. Spending too much time with the wrong people wastes time and money. That time that has passed cannot be taken back. The company of the wrong people takes us to the bottom of the pit. It takes a long time to get back up.

What thing would you add to the list?

Sorry for late response. Don't forgive people who have wronged you once. Get used to saying it's okay and then letting go of those people. Don't stay with those people thinking that you will never forgive them again and that they will never do wrong again. Know that most people make mistakes knowingly.

Yep, those are good ones for sure, worthy of a mention.

Sometimes on weekends I treat myself to a longer sleep. Until 7AM 😂
And that's the best moment of the day, while it's not crowded, the whole city is asleep and quiet.
For a walk, perfect time.

Yep, a small sleep in is good...hours not so much.

Please explain how this sleep in is achieved? It would be soooo welcomed.

It's often difficult to find for sure.

Maybe the sleep when I'm dead phrase rings true.

Good stuff! My wife has yet to learn how to say no and people at work take advantage of it big time. It drives me crazy! Old Dominion is one of my favorites! I heard they have a new album coming out soon.

I saw that they were releasing an album soon, I'm looking forward to it. They're a good band, sort of just...nice.

That last one is hard, I don't think it is natural to realize that I will die, I tend to feel like I will live forever. Though I do understand that in reality I have something like twenty to forty years left if nothing goes wrong...

It's confronting but when it's understood and accepted it feels quite liberating, sort of like getting a really difficult task out of the way early in the day...the rest seems easy.

Hardy is an interesting musical artist.

Wait in the Truck moved me to chills snd anger

I have been there done that. Several different times. They did not pull the trigger. And the girls went back to the abusive relationships... SMFH

It's a sad reality that this sort of thing happens unfortunately, although I'd say there's those who make the changes and find better lives for it.

Man, your posts have been hitting me hard lately. I'm good about almost never waking up late, but I still use the snooze on some mornings. Jocko would NOT approve!

The other four...those are a constant challenge. You can be good one day and slip up the next. Your mind has to be constantly disciplined to avoid those bad patterns of thinking (and acting).

The last 5 years or so, after reading "Hell Yeah or No" by Derek Sivers, I've learned to say "No" a lot more and it has improved my life and mental health in so many ways.

Haha, yeah Jocko would crush you for hitting that snooze button. It would not be a crushing anyone would be likely to enjoy coming from the big man.

With the others (and many other things) it's a guide to focus on and I don't believe anyone would be able to hit it one hundred percent of the time. But if it's a conscious action, striving to do the things that we know work, a person will hit it more often than not.

Quite true about Jocko. Although something interesting I've noticed...I've been fortunate to meet a couple of SEALS in person when in San Deigo. They were the surprisingly humble and "gentle" when we were chatting (just random encouters in public). Perhaps Jocko might cut me a break as a civilian 😁

Good point about using them as a guide. We never achieve perfection but can use those as a north star to aim towards.

Some military people want to tell you all about it, about them, and others just do what they do and don't need to talk all about it. I think the same with SF guys really. Some are meat heads and will act it, but most are very intelligent people and humble as you say. I guess it's like with all humans, there are all kinds.

Learning to say no is very important. If you don't set boundaries, the number of commitments you take on, simply because you don't know how to say no, will be overwhelming and stressful. For several months, I took on a lot of responsibilities because I felt bad saying no to those who came to me for help. When I analyzed the situation, I decided it was time to set boundaries and prioritize. Learning to say no has freed me from taking on non-priority responsibilities, allowing me to invest my time in productive activities.

Greetings!
