My Actifit Report Card: April 18 2024

Well, here we are finally, after creating our floor, we only have to install our laminate flooring. So, after a very busy freelance day, we started by clearing our tiny house of all the clutter we've accumulated over the past few days.

Then we gave it a good sweep. Ideally, we would have used a vacuum, but we don't have one on hand. So, we did several rounds with the broom. It's important to work on a clean site.

Once that was done, we quickly read the instructions for the underlayment we were going to install before laying the laminate flooring. This underlayment will provide some insulation and also reduce the sound of footsteps. This is a good thing since currently, when we walk on our floor, the gap between the OSB boards and the concrete slab below acts like a big sound box.

After reading these instructions, it was time to start installing the first section.

So far, nothing too complicated.

The most interesting part now is taking measurements to install the first plank of laminate flooring. Laminate flooring that we naively thought we could install 4 months ago.

For the cuts, we used a miter saw to get straight lines. In the photo, it looks like the saw isn't plugged in. But yes, it was. ^^

The cable you see at the bottom of the photo is the power cord for the jigsaw. We hadn't plugged it in yet. In fact, we needed it to make some special cuts around a beam at the back of the room.

Finally, after only 3 rows, we had to stop because we no longer had enough light to take measurements and to know which floor to install. For a natural effect, we mix our packages of planks to avoid ending up with similar shapes and colors next to each other.

And without daylight or at least good artificial light, it was impossible for us to properly distinguish the colors. So, we preferred to stop.

That said, just for this little bit, we spent 2 and a half hours. But now that we have the logic, I think we can go faster.
