My Actifit Report Card: April 24 2024

Hello Hive!

We ran into a few minor issues during our work. Nothing serious, but sometimes things don’t go quite as planned, and you have to be able to accept that.

After our freelance workday, we wanted to completely empty the caravan. The goal was still to lay the laminate flooring. So, we finished removing the old linoleum to expose the floorboards.

Next, there’s this large Murphy bed that we want to remove. It’s very practical because it saves space during the day, but that’s not at all how we envision the caravan. Once all the work is done, the caravan will mainly serve as a bedroom and part bathroom.

So, we started figuring out how we could remove it cleanly. You should always try to remove things cleanly.

Upon closer inspection, it turns out that the bed is just attached with hinges. So, we thought, "cool, in 10 minutes the bed will be out."

But no, it was impossible to unscrew the screws. I don’t know if it's because they were rusty underneath, but whether with a screwdriver or an electric drill/driver, the screws wouldn’t turn. We spent more than 2 hours trying to find a solution to our problem.

Finally, we decided we would give up and come back the next day with some penetrating oil to try again.

And as I was leaving the caravan, I fell through the old floorboards. Well, we wanted to replace them anyway, so it just sped things up. But to prevent little pests from getting in, we preferred to place a cut-off piece of OSB board and put a 25kg bag of mortar on top of it.

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned and it takes a lot of strength to accept that.

I'm always amazed about how you build your little home and your caravan too. Great job and keep up the good work!

Thanks for your feedback, which gives me a lot of courage, because it really isn't easy every day. It's mostly that when we plan to do one thing, we break another thing, so when we take one step forward, we take two steps back.

But looking back, it's a lot more fun than going in a straight line!
