My Actifit Report Card: June 17 2025

Monday morning, I had 200 km of road to do. Heading to our land with @altheana. My aunt, who lives not far from that land, needed a hand to watch her dogs. She was going to a professional convention.

I arrive around noon. The morning spent in the car did me a lot of good because it was an opportunity to think a bit about the big issues in my life right now and the directions I would like to take.

In the afternoon, I worked hard on my freelance projects to make up for lost time. And between two emails, I played dogsitter. Walks, games, outing to the cherry tree at the back of my aunt's property to pick the last cherries of the season. A simple pleasure. I remembered @altheana saying we could do this to make a bit of money. It’s not stupid, but in our countryside, no one is looking for dogsitters.

The next morning (Tuesday then), I worked part of the morning. Especially on my new mobile app. Then I headed to our land. I had three missions in mind:

• Pick up dry bamboos to make tomato stakes.
• Find a cable to charge my Olight lamp (I didn’t find it).
• Weed in front of the cabin.

And, as a bonus: carve a wooden spoon with my hatchet. I usually have a knife for that, but doing everything with a knife is way too long. I’ve never finished a single spoon that way.

So I start by weeding. It’s already 30 degrees. The air is heavy, very stifling. Pond on one side, stream on the other. A real tank. I feel a mix of sweat and steam running down my forehead.

Then, I start the bamboo hunt. I make sure to only take the dry ones. No way I’m inviting an army of running bamboos into our garden. Nor into the neighbors’ yards.

I find a few. Not as big as I would have liked, but solid enough to support tomatoes. I think it will do the job. While collecting these bamboos, I had ideas for small constructions, but that’ll be for another day.

With a bit of time left, I take out the hatchet. I split a log. And I see two potential spoons inside. I quickly sketch the outline with a marker. Then I roughly shape with the hatchet.

I loved doing that, just the sound of water, the fish jumping, insects flying, the smell of wood and resin from the wood chips I had spread a few weeks ago in front of the woodpile and the cabin.

Once satisfied with the shape, I move on to the knife to refine a bit.

But there’s still too much material. I take the hatchet again, hit a knot… and it’s a disaster. The spoon breaks cleanly, between the handle and the hollow.

Too bad, especially since it’s too late to start another one. But I took some wood with me. I’ll try again at home.

It’s high time to gather my things. I feed the dogs, give them water, and I hit the road again for the 200 km return.

On the way, I stop at a recycling center. I like these places. I saw great furniture sold between 10 and 80€. And jackpot, my eyes land on two lamps at 1€ each. We had been looking for some for weeks with @altheana. But we have a small budget, and with it, we couldn’t find anything we really liked. Now, it’s perfect.

I get back in the car to finish my 200 km, I listen to music and above all, I have a new project in mind: make more spoons. I love this activity. Focus, calm, creativity. Everything I love.

Lundi matin, j'avais 200 km de route à faire. Direction notre terrain avec @altheana. Ma tante, qui habite pas loin de ce terrain, avait besoin d’un coup de main pour garder ses chiens. Elle partait en convention pro.

J’arrive vers midi. La matinée passée en voiture m'a fait un bien fou car ça a été l’occasion de cogiter un peu sur les grosses problématiques de ma vie en ce moment et les directions que j'aimerais prendre.

L’après-midi, j’ai travaillé à fond sur mes projets freelance pour rattraper le temps perdu. Et entre deux mails, j’ai joué au dogsitter. Balades, jeux, sortie jusqu’au cerisier au fond du jardin pour récupérer les dernières cerises de la saison. Petit plaisir simple. Je me suis souvenu d'@altheana qui disait qu'on pourrait faire ça pour se faire un peu d'argent. C'est pas idiot, mais dans notre campagne, personne ne cherche des dogsitter.

Le lendemain matin (mardi donc), j’ai bossé une partie de la matinée. Notamment sur ma nouvelle application mobile. Puis j’ai pris la direction de notre terrain. J’avais trois missions en tête :

• Récupérer des bambous secs pour en faire des tuteurs à tomates.

• Retrouver un câble pour recharger ma lampe Olight (je l’ai pas trouvé).

• Désherber devant la cabane.

Et, en bonus : sculpter une cuillère en bois avec ma hachette. J’ai un couteau pour ça d’habitude, mais faire tout au couteau est beaucoup trop long. Je n’ai jamais terminé une seule cuillère comme ça.

Je commence donc par désherber. Il fait déjà 30 degrés. L’air est lourd, c'est très étouffant. Étang d’un côté, ruisseau de l’autre. Une vraie cuve. Je sens un mélange de transpiration et de vapeur couler le long de mon front.

Ensuite, j'entame la chasse au bambou. Je fais bien attention à ne prendre que les secs. Pas question d’inviter une armée de bambous traçants dans notre potager. Ni chez les voisins.

J’en trouve quelques-uns. Pas aussi gros que je l’aurais voulu, mais assez solides pour soutenir des tomates. Ça fera le job je pense. En récupérant ces bambous, j'ai eu des idées de petites constructions, mais ça sera pour un autre jour.

Avec encore un peu de temps devant moi, je sors la hachette. Je fends un rondin. Et je vois deux cuillères potentielles dedans. Je dessine vite fait le contour au feutre. Puis je dégrossis à la hachette.

J'ai adoré faire ça, juste le bruit de l’eau, les poissons qui sautent, les insectes qui volent, l’odeur du bois et de la résine issue des copeaux que j'avais étalé il y a quelques semaine devant le tas de bois et la cabane.

Un fois satisfait de la forme, je passe au couteau pour affiner un peu.

Mais il reste trop de matière. Je reprends la hachette, tape sur un nœud... et c'est le drame. La cuillère casse net, entre le manche et le creux.

Dommage, surtout qu'il est trop tard pour en commencer une autre. Mais j’ai pris du bois avec moi. Je retenterai à la maison.

Il est grand temps de rassembler mes affaires. Je nourris les chiens, je leur donne de l’eau, et je reprends la route pour les 200 km retour.

Sur le chemin, je m'arrête dans une recyclerie. J'aime bien ces endroits. J'y ai vu de super meubles vendus entre 10 et 80€. Et jackpot, mes yeux se posent sur deux lampes à 1€ chacune. On en cherchait depuis des semaines avec @altheana. Mais nous avons petit budget, et avec ce dernier, on ne trouvait rien qui nous faisait vraiment envie. Là, c’est parfait.

Je retourne en voiture pour finir mes 200km, j'écoute de la musique et surtout, j'ai un nouveau projet en tête ; faire plus de cuillères. J’adore cette activité. Concentration, calme, créativité. Tout ce que j’aime.
