Liverpool performed below expectation yet Nunez Darwin shines.

The weekend didn't end as planned for many Liverpool fans, the encounter against Fulham was expected to be an easy win judging by Liverpool's performance in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

The Meyerside club has consecutively played a draw against Fulham in 2020/21 and the 2022/23 seasons, all hope were high going into the match and it was a huge disappointment for many Liverpool fans. Fulham returned to the Premier League with lots of energy but it is too early to judge how far that will take them, they had the perfect start two seasons ago as well but they ended up returning to the championship, it is hard to predict if they are staying or not and we can't take away the fact that they had a great game against Liverpool.

Fulham didn't enjoy much of the ball possession but every time had the ball, they kept pushing for a goal.

Mitrovic was Liverpool's nightmare in the fixture, the Serbian striker has been through thick and thin with the club since he joined in 2017, he scored two goals to give his side a perfect start on their return to the league.

I would blame Arnold for the first goal he scored because he was there first and he couldn't prevent Mitrovic from scoring that goal, Van Djik conceded a penalty for tripping him and he puts Fulham in front for the second time in the match.

I wasn't surprised to see Firmino start ahead of Nunez, I guess Jurgen Klopp was trying to come up with something which didn't work out well. The Brazilian was replaced by Darwin in the 51st minute of the match and he announced his presence just thirteen minutes after, he got the equalizer for Liverpool and went on the make an assist for Mohammed Salah who has scored in 6 opening matches of the season for Liverpool.

The former Benfica forward has scored twice in two Liverpool games for Liverpool and I can tell his future looks bright with the club.

Arsenal secured three points despite Crystal Palace's threat.

It wasn't a perfect performance but it was a perfect start for Arsenal, ball possession or shots on target don't count in football and the team that gets the goals earns the glory.

Crystal Palace went wild against Arsenal but they had nothing to show for it at the end of 90 minutes, they lost and all the effort they made meant nothing. Arsenal players didn't give the same energy they gave during the Preseason matches, I expected more but being able to grind out the required results mattered most and they did it.

Gabriel Jesus didn't have a great game, the Brazilian couldn't register in a name for a goal or an assist. Salina and Zinchenko were solid for Arsenal, they deserve lots of applause for their impact and contribution to Arsenal's victory.

It was a good one, I expected revenge for the previous season's humiliation and how Crystal Palace disrupted Arsenal's top four dreams.

Tottenham outclassed Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur isn't here for a joke this season and their incredible performance against the Saints was all they needed to make their intentions for the season known to other Premier League clubs.

Without argument, you will agree with me taking the club continued from where they stopped last season, and with the new legs in the club, they might just be walking on the path to having the best season in the club's history.

The old legs did the job again and it looks like they still have the previous season's fire burning in them. Antonio Conte looks like he is doing a lot with the team, I hope they can keep up with the performance for a long time.

Nottingham Forest met the wrong opponent

Nottingham Forest got the wrong opponent on their return to the Premier League, I was wondering how they went through the first half without conceding a goal against Newcastle United.

The second half went as expected, the goals we didn't see in the first half came in doubles during the second half. Fabian Schar got the opener after Newcastle several attempts and Callum Wilson sealed the victory, Newcastle secured all three points to be among the teams that won their opening match in the league. Nottingham Forest is the only returnee that didn't get a point over the weekend, I guess they aren't up for the test.

Bournemouth Fc humiliates Steven Gerrard

Aston Villa must have expected an easy ride just like Liverpool against the newly promoted team but it turned the other way around for them, Bournemouth stood their ground and it paid off for them.

Bournemouth took their chances seriously and it must be a sad opener for Aston Villa. Last season wasn't very fantastic for them, the team finished 14th in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign and they should be hoping to do better this season because every season doesn't come with much luck, they might not be lucky to escape relegation this time.

Leeds United get first victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers since returning to Premier League

Wolves use to be the better side of the two teams since Leeds returned to the Premier League but it looks like they have ended Wolves dominance over them, it was an unexpected result from the fixture.

I wasn't expecting Leeds to come into the season strong after letting Raphinha and Kalvin Philips go, they seem not to miss the departure of these players and more that left the club.

Wolves got the opening goal and you would think they have got things under control, it went on like that until the 22nd minute when Rodrygo struck the net. He got an equalizer for Leeds and they went on to get their first win on return to the Premier League with Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal.

Chelsea squeeze all three points out against Everton

The two teams haven't found their rhythm yet and their encounter on Saturday has proven it, Chelsea had the bigger chance to win the match but they had to go through a lot to get all three points in the match.

I wonder what the result would have been without the penalty, we didn't see much of Chelsea during the preseason matches and I expected them to turn up with a great game against Everton to kick start the season.

Chelsea's new man, Raheem Sterling was a good boost for the team but he can't get everything done by himself, the team needs to wake up and give their fans an entertaining game. They got all points and it is too early to tell what the season would look like but the Chelsea players will need to snap out of this cold football they are playing.

Dasilva ruined Leicester City's perfect start
.

It would have been a perfect start for Leicester City if Dasilva didn't get a goal in the minute of the match but he did and Leicester City had to settle for a draw after 90 minutes of fantastic football. The home team had the lead until the 86th minute of the match, it must hurt Leicester City to lose the match in the very final minutes of the match.

Brentford kept a close gap against Leicester City despite playing away from home, the last season ended well for them and it looks like they came into the season with fantastic energy. We are just one match gone and I am expecting a lot more from Leicester City.

Brighton haunts Manchester United again

We saw Manchester United get humiliated last season by Brighton but no one saw it coming again this season after everything we saw in the preseason, there was a lot of difference between what we saw in the second leg last season and in the new season but the goal is what counts.

It must be hard for Manchester United to accept they were defeated despite the hopes they had before the season started, it was indeed a defeat but not as bad as we thought. Manchester United is going through a recovery phase and the new manager is still trying to settle into the real competition, I don't know how long it will take but I think the team will experience a good time with him.

There has been a lot of speculation about the lineup, Ten Hag should have started this player and rested another but we need to understand that he is still trying to pick his first team.

Erling Haaland announces his presence with a brace.

Manchester City has proven to be a senior to Westham in their opening match against Westham United on Saturday, both teams had tight results in the previous season but Manchester City came out on top, and Haaland eventually got not just one but two goals in his first Premier League match.

The former Dortmund man was criticized by many because he couldn't get a goal against Liverpool in the community shield but he has proven his critics wrong. City has started on a strong foot and I think they are one of the title major contenders even though it is too early to predict what the Premier season would look like.

The new signing scored for Manchester City both goals before he was substituted, he had got the best team in Premier League and nothing should stop him from shining.

Regardless of the result, it was a great football weekend and I enjoyed watching the matches, see you next week on the HEADLINE FROM THE WEEKEND MATCHES

United will take years to get the team balance as they need to replace 80% of the squad. This is 3-5 years minimum as this is not a quick fix. We shall see just how bad it is when they play Liverpool in 2 weeks time as they have to get past Brentford first.

That's true, the team needs more than just replacing a few players, I hope it doesn't take too long. Manchester United's glory day has completely faded and they need to work on coming back to the lime light quickly

Liverpool didn't give us a reason to celebrate in the first game week of the season but it's still a pleasure to see Nunez and Salah scoring bangers for us. Haha.

As for Manchester United, they don't know what is coming for them this season. I genuinely don't see them doing any better especially with the type of midfield they have.

It will be a long ride.

I thought Manchester United will be able to start the league on a good note but it was the other way around, a draw isn't too bad for Liverpool. At least, we know the future is bright for us.

Yeah Man.

I'm sure you've heard of how long Thiago will be on the sideline because of his injury. Haha. I just hope this can serve as an opportunity for Chamberlain and Curtis Jones to grind themselves into the game.

I'm looking forward to our next game.

Okay. Carvalho is fit though. The missing guys are Keita and Thiago and Thiago will be off for 6 weeks.

Fabinho got a knock in the middle of last game but I've not heard anything about his injury update so he may just be available for the next training and also for the next game.

Fabinho 😮, it's too early for injuries. I hope we don't get more of this.

Okay, nothing serious. We will be fine without him, we just need the defenders to step up there game because I wasn't happy with last weekend result.

Exactly. The defence was disjointed a lot of times. If our defence can hold things together, we can always get it right because most of our chances comes from the flanks.
