They definitely came unprepared.

The group stage matches at the ongoing World Cup will be rounded up on Friday and we already have 14 countries who have made it to the next round of the competition.

While we applaud countries for making it through to the next round of the competition, I find the exit of some countries quite embarrassing. I don't know what excuse these countries that failed to deliver in Qatar would give but the fact remains that some of the big football nations came unprepared for the World Cup

It is surprising to see nations with great players at the club level failing to take their teams to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Individual brilliance in country football is not something I do see often and it was disappointing seeing the big names not making a difference for their country at the World Cup. The spotlight were practically on the wrong people and despite the disappointment, it felt great seeing some underrated player at club level flying their country flag really high in Qatar.

Belgium

I am most disappointed in the Belgium national team and seeing them crash out with the caliber of players they possess surprises me a lot. They haven't been at their very best form even from the Nations League but we expected a lot more from them in Qatar.

They were paired alongside Croatia, Morroco, and Canada. If I am not mistaken, Belgium sits second on the Fifa ranking and they couldn't make it out of a group consisting of these countries. They struggled to get a victory against Canada and a draw against Croatia, I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me that they were going to lose to Morocco.

I couldn't stop asking myself what the big names on the team were doing because it is a big slap on them. They ended their journey with four points and they unbelievably scored just one goal in all three matches.

Germany

I expected more from the German national team as well but they failed to deliver. Losing to Japan wasn't something we were expecting and they couldn't recover from that blunder they committed in their first match in the World Cup.

They went on to draw against Spain and winning against Costa Rica wasn't enough to right their wrongs. Germany has some of the best players in the world and it must really be a disappointing exit for them.

Spain got through to the next round but they haven't done anything exceptional than thrashing Costa Rica with a huge goal difference which helped them progress to the next round. They ended the same point with Germany and it could have been something else for them as well if not for the goal difference, I bet 99% of football fans out there wouldn't have predicted them to lose against Japan. Seeing the Asian side top the group after three matches is an incredible achievement to me.

Denmark

After losing their first match to Australia, I felt that the Danish national team would redeem their image against France and Tunisia but they failed to even give their fans something to be happy about.

Denmark's double victory against France at the Nations League gave many the people the belief that they were going to have a huge impact at the World Cup but that was wrong.

They managed to get just one point from the group stage which was really unexpected and disappointing at the same time.

Wales.

Wales is another country that performed terribly like Denmark even though I wasn't expecting too much from them. Despite my low expectations of them, not getting into round of 16 is the least I was expecting from them.

The only point they picked from the group was against USA, they lost to England and unbelievably fell to the swords of the Iranian.

It was quite disappointing to see these countries crash out so cheaply, I hope they return to the drawing board to figure out their shortcomings and make the proper amendment. I expect Ghana and Switzerland to join the teams that made it to the round of 16.

Ehehehe. That’s football for us ooo. Though I am not watching or having any follow up. I prays the best team wins. All I am anticipating for is for the final match. And the semi final too.

I would focus and enjoy those matches and also pray the match leads to penalty 😂. That’s where I derive joy in watching football..

So Saudi Arabia also qualified??

They didn't, only Argentina and Poland qualified. Penalty is not my favorite style because of the suspense

Hahaha. The suspense is what I love the most. That’s why I pray for penalty kicks 😆

I am most disappointed in the Belgium national team and seeing them crash out with the caliber of players they possess surprises me a lot.

This exit should be the most disappointing. The team is stacked with big names right from goalkeeper to striker. I’m even more amazed by the fact that you pointed out they’ve managed to score just one goal. Wow😲.

I expected more from the German national team as well but they failed to deliver. Losing to Japan wasn't something we were expecting and they couldn't recover from that blunder they committed in their first match in the World Cup.

Not until I realized Spain weren’t going to win their match I had 100% hope Germany would qualify. For a team that has Hansi Flick as coach, killing games off shouldn’t have been a problem but that was what cost them in my opinion. They failed to take their chances against Japan and definitely should have been more than 1-0 at halftime against Costa Rica.

Wales exit doesn’t surprise me as much as Denmarks. Denmark was labelled the dark horses by many but to go out of the group stages just shows us why we all love football. How could all of us be this wrong?😆

I never expected anything from Wales in the world cup, they just came to sell groundnut, as for Germany after they lost to Japan in the opening match, I knew they are not going to make it out of the group.
