My Actifit Report Card: August 27 2023

On Thursday, 24 August 2023, Japan started draining Fukushima nuclear plant-treated radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, around 1.34 million tonnes of water.

The consequence of this is that I see on the TV news people rushing to the supermarket and grabbing the sea salt and leaving empty stands, and in some supermarkets, they decided to limit the sale of one packet of salt per customer.

South Korea are protesting, asking Japan to stop the draining, and also has banned the import of fish from Japan. I have seen on the TV news that Japanese authorities are testing the fish meat to see if they have any radioactive substances.

Usually, the sea salt price is around HK$ 5(US$0.7), but now only expensive salt is left in the stands.

The Hong Kong Consumer Department announced that there are enough sea salt to supply to the community; however, people didn’t listen. It reminds me of the same thing that happened when COVID-19 started; there wasn’t tissue paper in the supermarkets.
