My Actifit Report Card: October 16 2023

Today, my elder son had the day off to make up for his field day. I also took my second son's daycare day off and went to a library a short bike ride away.

I love libraries!

I had been here several times on Saturdays and Sundays and at that time this place was very crowded. The study and reading rooms were full of elementary and junior high school students studying. Today was a weekday so it was very empty. I always wish there was a library like this near my house.

There is a large selection of books for children here. I quite like foreign children's literature for teenagers, and I still read them from time to time. When I was in elementary school, I loved "The House on The Hill" by Eileen Dunlop so much that I kept borrowing it, returning it, and borrowing it again. The book is still available in libraries around the country. I even borrowed it for my son this summer vacation!

Just recently, I bought Robert Westall's "The Scarecrows" from Amazon. I had actually seen this book at my local library when I was a child, but the picture on the cover scared me, so I couldn't borrow it at the time. But it still looks interesting.

It is calming to be in a place with lots of books. Lately, though, I can't read very long texts because I have trouble concentrating.... Unfortunately, my children are not very interested in this wonderful space and keep fiddling with the touch panel of the book search machine. Hmmm, I wish they would look around the bookshelves a little more…😅

My second son put the books in his bag without going through the check-out procedures, which set off a screeching alarm at the exit gate. After that, we hurriedly checked out the book, had lunch at Saizeriya, and headed home.

Walking around the library, I walked more than 6,000 steps today.

今日は長男が運動会の振替休日でお休みでした。ついでに次男の保育園もお休みにして、自転車で少し離れた図書館へ行ってきました。私は図書館が好きです。

ここへは土日に何度か来たことがありましたが、その時はとても混んでいて、特に自習室は勉強している小中学生でいっぱいでした。今日は平日だったので空いていました。こんな図書館が家の近くにあったらいいのにな、といつも思います。

児童向けの図書も豊富です。私は10代向けの海外の児童文学が結構好きで、今でも時々読むことがあります。小学生の頃、『まぼろしのすむ館』（アイリーン・ダンロップ著）をとても気に入って、借りては返し、返しては借り、を繰り返していました。今でもその本は各地の図書館にあるので、この夏休みは長男のために借りたりもしました。

つい最近も、Amazonでロバート・ウェストールの『かかしー今、やつらがやってくる』を買いました。実はこの本も、子どもの頃に地元の図書館で見かけたことはあったのですが、表紙の絵が怖くて当時は借りられなかったのです。でも、やっぱり面白そうです。

本がたくさんある場所にいると落ち着きます。最近は、集中力がもたずあまり読めませんが…。残念ながら子どもたちはこの空間にあまり興味を示さず、検索機のタッチパネルをいじっているばかり。うーん、もうちょっと本棚を見て回るとか、して欲しいんだけどな…😅

次男が本の貸出手続きをせずにバッグに入れたため、出口ゲートでけたたましい警報を鳴らしてしまいました。その後あたふたと貸出手続きを済ませ、サイゼリヤでお昼ご飯を食べて帰途につきました。

図書館内をぐるぐると歩いたことで、今日の歩数は6,000歩を越えました。
