Overtake Award, the award for overtaking will be the novelty of F1 from the Dutch GP onwards.

With the Overtake Award the FIA will reward the driver who will make the most overtaking on the track and Sebastian Vettel is currently in first place.

The first part of the GP d'Ungheria 2021 with overtaking.

Novelty, business, an idea to make Formula 1 more competitive and that of greater spectacle or simply an idea thrown at random after two seasons under the sign of confusion in the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic?

The truth is that the idea of Liberty Media from the hand of some sponsors, especially crypto.com, which is already a pleasant novelty that predisposes us to a link between the world of cryptocurrencies and one of the largest sports events in the world, yes It is inviting, it is full of loopholes, like many decisions taken by the FIA lately (including the last GP held in Spa, Belgium).

That is why we say, an innovative idea yes, but full of gaps, due to the absence - until now - of a clear regulation in this regard.

Keep in mind that this Award (we could call it that) does not award points, it is simply a trophy that will be agreed at the end of the year to stimulate competitiveness among the drivers.

Let's see why the doubts (which are not only the writer) but also specialized chroniclers:

separador-parrafos-para-F1.png

Encourage the spectacle of the Formula or incorporate it into the world of cryptocurrencies?

Crypto.com has already made the presentation of its F1 lottery with the so-called Sprint Series launched in July.

It is striking that this initiative, with all the "heavyweight" sponsors that Liberty Media has (the group led by Chase Carey, who replaced Bernie > Ecclestone, the man who for 38 years was at the helm of the world's top motor racing category, in the general management of the F1 business as of 2016) is in charge of Crypto.com, one of the current platforms with the brightest future in the world of cryptocurrencies.

Other sports, such as soccer in the major European leagues, have already incorporated the digital economy into their assets in the form of tokens.
It could be the turn of Formula 1, which would mean an important support to make the entry into a new world of finance and with still so much to explore.

188.-Formula1-el-premio-por-adelantar-cripto.com-aston-martin.png

Crypto.com, the main sponsor of Overtake Awar, is also one of the sponsors of the Aston Martin team.

El valor de los detalles. / The value of details.

The ongoing battle for superiority between Hamilton and Verstappen has been one of the hallmarks of the current F1 season.

What is missing in the regulation of the new award is the so-called "fine print", that is to say that it clearly specifies under what conditions it is considered an overtaking.

The award does not entitle the driver to points, at least for the time being, that is clear.

But the details of the announcement do not clarify anything, for example, about overtaking laggards, a very simple procedure for the drivers of Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and other teams with respect to those at the bottom of the standings, when they already start to overtake them by a lap. It will not have much merit but it is an overtaking.

It is not the same as Hamilton passing Verstappen (and not crashing into each other) or vice versa, or Bottas doing it with Perez, Norris with Leclerc or even the last ones with each other for a fight for the last point at stake, if we want to make a name game to exemplify the situation that one of the front runners should pit, deal from the back of the queue and start climbing positions.

Once the great Michael Schumacher was last and ended up winning the race with an overtaking record.

Overtaking with the help of DRS is not the same as overtaking without it.

A melee between Hamilton and Verstappen is worth the same as an overtake by the Dutchman on a driver of the Haas team, not to belittle either.

The lack of clear rules leads to the anecdote that in this case reminds me of the world of cinema: in the movie Lord of the Rings based on the wonderful book by J.R. Tolkien there are two characters who are Aragorn (played by Vigo Mortenssen) and the dwarf Gimli who fight each other to establish the primacy of slain enemies (orcs). At a certain point Aragorn kills an oliphant (a kind of monstrous elephant) and looks with a triumphant aria at his companion as if to say: "I have beaten you". To which the dwarf replies: "either way it counts as 1".

The lack of clear rules can ruin an initiative that appears, in principle, as a novelty.
