Walk between Buffalora and the Enchanted Lake

Today I decided to disconnect for a while. I needed some fresh air, silence, and nature. So I chose an area I had only heard of: Buffalora, in the southeast part of Brescia. I never would have imagined that just a few steps from the city there could be such a surprising corner.

As soon as I arrived, I took one of the trails in the Parco delle Cave. The sky was clear, the air already warm but light, and in front of me opened a simple, welcoming path—perfect for walking without hurry.

What strikes you immediately is the tranquility: everything seems to slow down. The Canneto Lake, with its clear mirror-like water, reflected the first peaks of the Prealps. It almost felt like walking through a painting.

With every step, the city seemed to fade a little more. I passed a few other walkers, some cyclists, and the rest was silence: just birdsong and the rustling of tall grass.

I found out that everything around me was once a quarry—industrial spaces now reborn as natural oases. That really struck me. Nature reclaimed the space and transformed it into something deeply peaceful.

At one point, I reached a slightly raised spot and stopped. In front of me, the mountains—soft, hazy, distant but present. And below, the lake, calm like glass. A heron rose into the air at that very moment. Silent, graceful. I smiled for no reason.

The walk was short—less than an hour—but it was enough. When I got back to the starting point, I had that feeling only the best walks can give: just the right amount of tired, calm, and fully present.

I don’t know why I had never been there before. But I know I’ll be back. Maybe to run, maybe just to sit on a bench. Or simply to see that lake again, which, on an ordinary afternoon, reminded me how little it takes to feel truly well.
