An Average Tuesday When I got a Malaria case!
Malaria is not common in Oman. In the last 6 years, I haven't got any Malaria cases in my chamber. This Tuesday was the day when I got the first Malaria case.
He was a Pakistani. He complained of once-daily fever for the last 3-4 weeks. He used to get a fever every noon at around 2 pm, along with chills. The fever used to subside at around 8-9 pm.
He had a significant history of suffering from Malaria in 2022 in Pakistan. He was treated there at that time. Afterward, he was doing well, until the last 3-4 weeks when he got similar symptoms. So, this time, he asked to do a malaria test. And, it came back positive!
In Oman, a case of malaria is taken seriously. We had to inform the Malaria Unit from the Ministry of Health. The unit head came to verify everything. We had to refer the case to the government hospital where the patient will be treated accordingly.
Most likely, the patient didn't get malaria in Oman. Rather, he was a carrier. The previous infection wasn't cleared 100% with the treatment. The parasites were hidden well in the liver cells. Now, they woke up!

Clinically he was stable so far. Most likely, it wasn't a P. falciparum case, which is the dangerous one.
I also hope that he gets cured this time.
