My Actifit Report Card: August 10 2025

The life of the people of the char is as precarious as the river. During the monsoon, everything is submerged, leaving only a little bit of high ground as shelter. On that land, there are small houses, tin roofs, thatched roofs, and a pond for water in the middle. The gray-brown water of the river is all around, and boats are their only means of transportation.

In winter or during the dry season, the char is filled with greenery, farming is done, and cows and goats graze. But during the monsoon, the houses almost become islands — going to school, going to the market, seeing a doctor, everything is done by boat.

Growing up in such a place means fighting nature every day. Losing everything in a day due to river erosion is also very common. Yet, people smile because the people of the char know that life cannot stop, it has to flow like the current of the river.
