Ross Island (or "Chong-iki-bud" in the local Andamanese language) is named after the British marine surveyor Daniel Ross. 🌴🏝️
This small island, covered in coconut trees and surrounded by the Andaman Sea, was once the heart of the luxurious life of the British — the ruins of a bakery, swimming pool, church, water distillation plant, subordinates' club and many other monuments bear witness to that past. Once known as the "Paris of the East" by the British, this island was reduced to ruins in the terrible earthquake of 1941.

How to get there:
You can reach Ross Island by boat from the Rajiv Gandhi water sports complex in Port Blair. After reaching the island, you are given an hour. You can explore the entire island on foot or in a battery-powered car. You have to return to Port Blair by the same boat.
Cost: INR 470/person (both ways)

Note:

  1. There is no permission to stay overnight on this island, you can visit it for a day while staying in Port Blair.
  2. There is a light & sound show on this island. You can get tickets and details for it from the Govt website. We did not see it, so I will not comment much.
