I Finally Did It!!!!

I've been going on and on for months about how I want to bring my bike to Tunis where I live now. There was many occasions to bring it by car or something but I wanted to bike from Zaghouan where my parents live to Tunis.

It's not an easy task because we're talking about 60 Km (40miles). I know it's not that long a distance to keep me hesitating for months, but, in my defense, I'm not in good shape lately and I haven't been biking much. Also my bike isn't the most reliable because it was sitting there for too long and who knows in what condition it is.

Still, I promised myself when I went to visit my parents that I will go back biking.

And so I did.

For regular bikers, 60 Km should take about three hours. It took me a little less than four and a half hours, lots of sweat and exhaust, and many fleeting moments of regret.

But there were also moments of pride and feeling of accomplishment.

I kept tracking my progress and celebrating every 10% of the road (Sometimes even 5%)

There were many hills and every time I pass one, I celebrate as well haha. Now that I'm thinking about it, it was a fun trip.

Of course the best moment was when I entered the neighborhood and knew I made it. Even with the delay.

My only regret is that I didn't adjust the chair so my movement whould be optimal. My knees and my back ended up hurting me from adjusting my posture to the bike instead of the other way around.

PS:these arcs were built by Rome and they go on the side of the road from Zaghouan (named Zika back then) to Tunis (exactly to Carthage which was the capital of the Carthagian empire before it was occupied by Rome).

A local myth says that Ellisa ( aka Dido) was asked for marriage by a roman emperor and her condition was that he transports the water from Zika (Zaghouan now, which is still known for its good water) to Carthage (now part of Tunis) without touching the ground. So he built her those. A part of them is still used to send water to closer areas to Zaghouan now.

Back to the topic of biking haha

Usually, after such an adventure. I put the bike where I can't see it. And avoid it for days untill all the pain is gone. But this time I used it the very next day to go to work. Hence the 13k activity count.

Yes that was yesterday.

I went to work by bike. The 15Km took me exactly one hour. A better speed than the day before, but there's still room for improvement.

The weather was cloudy with a gentle breeze that pushed against me a little but felt good and kept me from sweating.

My trip home after work was even nicer as the temperature was lower. It even rained a little but that didn't last long and it didn't bother me. I was in the zone by then.

Now I trust my bike better and intend to make some improvements on it as well as on myself to get my numbers rising. And maybe one day I'll plan a grand (reckless) adventure with some of my more advanced biker friends.

Maybe I'll make posts about my progress and if it happens, I sure will post about the adventure.
