My thoughts about Manchester United after playing Astana

Manchester United played Astana on Thursday fielding 3 young attackers, and the game was okay. I have been a supporter of the red devils since the year 2006, seen a lot of squads set up by the legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson up till now. It feels this is a new project after all.

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left and handed over an old squad to David Moyes to handle, there seems to be a funny change in how the team really wants to play. The ‘philosophy’ seems to change from Moyes to van Gaal to Mourinho and now Solksjaer, it is too early to say something about the team building something new.

Something positive to hold on to is the fielding of young players from the academy, although I believe the squad could make use of experienced and efficient players. The game played on Thursday night showed the team needs an experienced attacker, Marcus Rashford if matured could have easily scored 3.

Thanks to Greenwood scoring in the 2nd half, the game would have ended in a draw. Some Manchester United fans compared him to Robin van Persie because he is so direct and takes his chances well.

I think Greenwood, Chong and Gomez deserves more playing time which I think they would get if the team does not get dumped out of Carabao cup, FA cup and Europa. I am more concerned about Lingard and Rashford taking their chances and stepping up, the team needs them bringing in their ‘A-game’ most of the time.

As a fan, I must say these are interesting times. I hope we get the 3 points against West Ham on Sunday.
