Virgil van Dijk moved to Liverpool from Southampton in 2018, but now it turns out that another English top club was close to the Dutchman.

In an interview with Telegraph Sport, former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says the London club were close to making a deal with the defender.

"I asked for two players and we were very, very close after we won the league," said Conte.

One was Romelu Lukaku, and the other was Van Dijk, and both trades were really close. We were in touch every single day and I always said the team could develop by 30 percent if the two came to.

Liverpool fans must be happy that Chelsea did not succeed in luring the Dutchman to London. Van Dijk has been a crucial piece in the Liverpool defense since his arrival.

The Dutch national team player is long-term injured after suffering a serious knee injury the other day.
