Mesut Özil has not played a game for Arsenal since March 7, 2020, but the 31-year-old German still earns gastronomic sums, due to his contract he signed with the club back in January 2018.

In addition to his weekly salary of almost £350,000 mpounds, the midfielder has now according to The Athletic received an absolutely huge loyalty bonus of 8 million pounds at the end of September.

According to The Athletic, the bonus has acted as a lucrative lure to keep the 31-year-old in the club until the contract expires, which in hindsight must be said to have backfired.

Arsenal have tried to part ways with Özil in recent transfer windows, to which the German has been very keen to get the contract out, which is of course due to the financial aspect, which has simply been further brushed off in the form of the news of the loyalty bonus.

Now, however, the offensive player has been excluded from the Europa League squad, which after all saves the club various match bonuses in the future until the contract expires in 2021.
