Ousmane Dembele would have preferred Juventus to Manchester United

When the Spanish transfer window slammed in, Ousmane Dembele was still a FC Barcelona player. He was on his way to Manchester United, according to several media outlets, but a contract was never signed.

Now Mundo Deportivo writes that it is because Dembele would actually rather switch to Italian Juventus. The Frenchman had greater confidence that he could regain his level in Serie A, but FC Barcelona and Juventus never agreed on a deal.

The Spanish media also writes that Juventus have long followed Dembele and considered entering into a swap deal that would have sent Douglas Costa the other way. Now the Italian champions will consider whether to go for Ousmane Dembele next summer or wait until his contract with FC Barcelona expires.

FC Barcelona have paperwork on Ousmane Dembele until the summer of 2022, and that could mean a switch away to next summer if they want a transfer fee for him. The 23-year-old winger joined FC Barcelona back in 2017 from Dortmund and has since played 75 games and scored 19 goals.
