Wenger: The Penalty against Denmark was wrong

Even though Denmark took the lead in Wednesday's European Championship semi-final, it was still England who ended up pulling the longest straw at Wembley. They did so mainly because "The Three Lions" were awarded a penalty kick in extra time.

The penalty kick, however, was a thin one of a kind, and perhaps the match referee Danny Makkelie should not have blown his whistle. He did, however, after which a quick VAR review established that there was a penalty kick for the English.

However, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not believe there was a penalty kick for England. He believes instead that the VAR system failed Makkelie by not letting the Dutch judge review the situation with his own eyes.

There was no penalty kick, says Arsene Wenger according to beIN SPORTS.

I do not understand why they did not ask the summer to look at it. In such a moment, it is important that the referee is completely convinced that there was a penalty kick. It was not clear enough to say that there was a penalty kick and he should at least have had a look at the screen.

I do not understand why VAR did not ask him to look at it himself. In my eyes, there was no penalty kick. I think that VAR has failed the judge - not Denmark. Denmark was a bit unlucky. I understand very well that it is difficult for the referee, but he has to look at it himself.

The penalty kick was a reality after the quick VAR review, and even though Harry Kane did not shoot the ball into the net from the 11-meter spot, the Tottenham striker was the fastest over the return ball, so he could score to the result of the match - 2-1.

I also share same thought with the Former arsenal manager. The contact was minimal to have been declared a penalty. At the end of the day, it is what it is. England through and Denmark accepting their fate.

My real concern conserning this is why the referee never refer back to VAR to know if the penalty really worth it or not

Exactly my issue with the referee. He should atleast have consulted the VAR for a match changing decision like that

I have this opinion, cause the contact was not really harsh before sterling went to the ground
