Hive FPL Head to Head League GW16 Previews

Phew! It's a breathless period of games for FPL Managers to contend with at the moment as we move directly from GW15 into GW16!

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 08.41.32.png

In Division 1, @shamzy maintained their 6 point lead at the top of the table with a comfotable victory. However, the chasing pack won't give up just yet with the next 6 teams separated by just 3 points!

Meanwhile at the bottom of the league it was noticeable that the results of GW15 didn't change the position of the bottom 5 clubs who all remain in the relegation zone, fighting for survival. In fact, 7 sides across the division maintained their league position from GW14 to GW15 suggesting that after 15 weeks of sides bouncing around the table, we are now getting some more stability in the rankings.

A similar trend is emerging in Division 2 where the top 6 didn't change league position. That means @skanderh who is also the leader in the classic league, remains top of the pile. However, with just 9 points separating the top 9 there's still plenty to play for in the hunt for a top 5 finish and promotion to Division 1.

Last week was a tough week for managers to extract major points from with big name players and common captain picks like Haaland, Salah and Watkins all blanking. There were also a number of common squad players like Areola, Tsimikas and Diaby who either didn't play or started on the bench and to be honest thigs don't look much easier in GW16.

The big match sees league leaders Arsenal travel to Aston Villa. Unai Emery's team have a formidable record at home and throughly out played Man City on Wednesday so expect that to be a close fought game. City themselves have to lick their wounds and then go and brace themselves for another physical encounter away at Luton who were very unlucky not to take something from their midweek thriller with Arsenal.

Manchester United continued their good home record by comfortably beating Chelsea in midweek and they come up against a fast improving Bournemouth side who seem to have taken to their new manager's ideas after a sluggish start.

Of the other teams who are likely to comprise popular picks for FPL teams - Liverpool travel to Palace who have lost their last 3 at home and are generally struggling for for form. FFP cheats Chelsea play FFP cheats Everton and injury ravaged Spurs host injury ravaged Newcastle.

Prizes for winners of last week's head to head matches will be sent later today.

Division 1 Fixtures

@b0s v @pvmihalache

Screen Shot 2023-12-08 at 07.35.29.png

Woah that's a lot of differentials! It's easier in these cases to establish who the common players are on each team which are Haaland and Saka!

Legion FC are likely to be forced into buying a new keeper with Areola having failed to start at Spurs and still doubtful for this weekend and Turner now 2nd choice at Forest. That means they'll either have to wait to replace the injured Mbeumo or take a points hit to get a 5th midfield option.

Content Creators had 4 defenders last week who scored at most 1 point and when you look at the fixtures that their defensive assets have in GW16 then it is difficult to see how they'll score big points again.

Content Creators will be hoping that Bruno Fernandes either doesn't pass up the opportunity to take a penalty or miss it as has been the case in recent weeks, while Legion FC will hope that Mo Salah can get back to scoring form, the Liverpool man has scored in just 1 of his last 5 appearances.

No massive differences in the 2 squads in this fixture. Perhaps what will be of concern for both sides is that neither of their benches offered any points in GW15 and with rotation almost certain to be a factor given the bunched up fixtures, squad depth could play a part in deciding the outcome of this and many other fixtures.

Inzanagi FC could be tied to the fate of Manchester United with Garnacho and Fernandes as differentials while Suffragette City will be sweating on the fitness of Son.

@deniskj v @shamzy

Inaugural winners of the classic league meet the Division 1 current leaders. Shamzy FC got back to winning ways in GW15 while I Feel Qatari's defeat leaves them firmly in the relegation spots.

Again, availability is a major concern for I Feel Qatari whose bench offered no points in GW15. They also need to find a replacement for Mbeumo who is definitely out this weekend and will be keeping an eye on the availability of Son and Mitchell. By contrast Shamzy FC have no immediate injury concerns and all but one of their outfield players scored points in GW15.

Hee Chan could prove a very useful differential for Shamzy FC. The Korean ha 10 goal involvements already this season and his Wolves side play a Forest team whose manager is on the brink of losing his job after a 5-0 hammering against a Fulham side that hardly plays the most attacking football.

@elmose v @thoth442

Screen Shot 2023-12-08 at 16.36.33.png

Both sides lost last week, defeats that left Espada Numero Uno in the relegation zone and which saw Thoth443 FC drop from 2nd to 6th.

Goalkeeper is an interesting position in this fixture because neither team had a keeper that played in GW15 and if Areola isn't fit again then that might be the same this week.

However, a replacement for Mbeumo is also a priority for both sides with Espada Numero Uno also potentially limited by Diaby's lack of game time in recent weeks.

At the back, thoth442 FC have doubled up on Arsenal defenders which might come at a price against Villa while for Espada the likes of Trippier and Andersen face free scoring teams this weekend.

@martinlazizi v @yagman01

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 06.23.09.png

Lazz got a highly important win in GW15 to keep them hanging onto the shirt tails of Shamzy at the top of the league as well as moving them 6 points clear of today's opponents Yagman FC who have lost their last 2 and slipped back into 8th place.

Yagman FC have taken what seems likely to be a popular decision to bring in Dubravka at Newcastle who will deputise for Pope for the foreseeable future. However, Newcastle are ravaged by injuries at the moment and with an incredibly tough looking fixture list it remains to be seen just how successful the team can be during these next few weeks.

There are plenty of differentials on offer but the concern for Yagman FC must the number of players who aren't automatic picks at the moment. By comparison the likes of JWP, Douglas Luiz, Palmer, Watkins and Maguire are all pretty much certainties to start if fit and in a game week where getting 11 players on the pitch who can score points looks to be tough, then that might just be the difference in this one.

@gvkanten v @amirtheawesome1

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 06.47.36.png

The Hungry Lions got an important win in their last match to keep them in that mid-table area and away from the relegation scrap. The same can't be said for the Amirians who just can't catch a break at the moment. The team looks decent on paper but a 22 point haul in any game week even when the average score is 35 is never going to be enough.

Most of the differentials come at the back in this one and once again it's Hungry Lions who can be more confident over their options starting this weekend than can the Amirians who are carrying the risk of Cash and Colwill.

Watkins over Archer certainly gives the Amirians an edge up front. In midfield, Gordon has been excellent at home but struggled to make as much of an impact away with no goal involvements on his travels so far this season. Similarly Raheem Sterling has struggled with consistency. He has 9 goal involvements this season but they've come in just 5 matches. The Amirians will hope that this is one of the good game weeks for the England winger.

@pappyelblanco v @vickoly

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 07.14.43.png

This should be a really close game if you go by the recent game week totals between these 2 sides which have been almost identical for the the last 3 weeks. Creekside actually leap frogged their opponents today with their win in GW15 so Augument will be hoping to return the favour in what would be either side's 10th win of the season.

Those close points tallies have come despite the fact that these 2 teams are very different in their makeup so picking a winner is anyone's guess! One thing that doesn't look likely to impact either side in the way it will so many others this week is player availability. Creekside FC left 25 points on their bench last weekend while Augment FC had 16 on theirs.

In many ways and given the problems that some teams in Division 1 will have this weekend, it might be unfortunate that these 2 sides have been drawn against each other in GW15 as they could well end up with higher totals than many.

@ipalibo v @blockchainfpl

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 07.56.51.png

Two closely matched sides who have currently have ambitions at different ends of the table.

Both teams will need to consider a replacement for Mbeumo and for Whyte FC they also need to think about a replacement either for the injured Lamptey or the out of favour Cash because otherwise their defensive options are limited.

In more attacking areas Haaland over Archer is a definite advantage for Whyte FC, can the City striker break what by his standards is a barren run of 2 games without a goal? Both sides then have the advantage of having midfielders who are largely being played as centre forwards at this point of time in Bowen and Son. The later hasn't scored at home in his last 3 attempts...

@mckane v @teofilex11

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 08.07.07.png

It's the battle of the 2 form teams in Division 1. Both these sides have won their last 3 matches but who will win a 4th?

In TAA, Likodra FC have one of the few high priced players in FPL who are putting in consistently good performances with the Liverpool man contributing 40 points over the last 4 GWs. With his high price point, it's going to be difficult for other sides to get him in the team even if they want to so it could prove not only a key differential in this match but weeks to come too.

Martinelli and Bowen both found the net last week and Likodra will hope that their form can continue too. While for FC McKane, Saka might not be putting up the really big GW numbers but he is remarkably consistent, having had a goal involvement in his last 4 matches and only blanking 3 times all season.

@nonsowrites v @borran

Screen Shot 2023-12-09 at 08.24.07.png

This is a key game for 2 sides sitting just outside the relegation spots and who have struggled with form lately. That being said, Hiveheadz did put in a convincing performance in GW15 with their midfield performing particularly well.

Nonz FC face a real selection dilema with Mitchell and Mbeumo ruled out, Areola a dount and the likes of Cash, Doku and Tsimikas not featuring at all in GW15. It doesn't really feel like a great week of fixtures to take a Free Hit but you never know...

The defences of these 2 sides are fairly similar so this is definitely going to be a game decided by the goal scorers with plenty of differentials on show including the likes of Watkins, Haaland Bowen and Saka.

Looking forward to that...

Also, is there a way I can send you a DM? I want to talk about the prospect of hive FPL spreading their reach on inLeo thread. There are very active sport lovers there. I think short engaging trivia would be good for the community
