Hive FPL Head to Head League GW6 Previews

With European fixtures during midweek and the nights slowly but surely drawing in, it's beginning to feel like the football season has truly arrived.

Screen Shot 2023-09-23 at 05.50.50.png

The big question for a lot of FPL managers coming into this gameweek will be how might those European ties impact players coming into this weekend's EPL matches? Teams like City, Arsenal and even to a lesser extent Brighton have all assembled powerful looking squads which will prove useful as they look to compete on multiple fronts but might prove tricky for FPL managers to navigate as squad rotation becomes a common factor.

Last week was a fairly low scoring affair but with the likes of City, Arsenal, Brighton and Liverpool playing at home, managers will hope that GW6 will be a chance to hit some bigger numbers.

GW6 Fixtures - Division 1

@b0s v @amirtheawesome1

Screen Shot 2023-09-21 at 05.30.57.png

This should be a really close encounter! Legion FC may be 2nd in the league but as you can see from the recent gamwweeks, The Amirians have out-scored their opponents in all 3 of the last 3 match-ups.

The Amirians probably hold an advantage in goal with Sanchez and Flekken both enjoying home fixtures while Legion FC will need to decide whether the high priced Onana is still worth a spot given United's leaky defence while Areola and West Ham face a tough trip to Anfield.

Injuries may also play a part in this fixture and with Baldock and Baptiste almost certainly not available this weekend, the Legion FC side almost picks itself.

In attacking areas, Legion are banking on Chelsea finding the net at home to Villa while The Amirians will hope that Marcus Rashford can find some form away at Burnley whose high line might suit his pace in behind.

With 3rd place Legion FC facing a tough tie this weekend, it gives the opportunity for one of these teams to potentially go clear at the top of Division 1!

Both teams have 12 points each with Augment FC having won 4 in a row, the longest current winning streak in the top flight. That being said, they come up against the top scorers in Hive FPL and number 1 ranked team in the classic league!

There are plenty of differentials particularly at the back although both sides will need to choose wisely in order to find clean sheets from some tricky looking matches this weekend.

Yagman FC's ability to fit both Salah and Haaland into their squad looks to be paying dividends and would certainly appear to give them an edge in the attacking areas.

Upfront, if Ferguson starts against Bournemouth then you'd say that Augment FC could be in with a good chance.

The captain pick is also one to look out for, Augument FC are Haaland loyalists, selecting the Norwegian 5 out 5 times while Yagman FC like to mix it up and so far to very good effect.

It's not been an easy start to the season for Blockchain FPL who currently find themselves bottom. My advice would be stop picking Spurs players! You started with Richarlison and as soon as you got him out of the team he starts scoring, you brought in Maddison and as soon as you did he stopped scoring. For the love of god man give us Spurs supporters a chance!

However, as you can see from the squads above, there is very little to choose between these 2 sides and you could argue that the differentials for Blockchain FPL have the better looking fixtures.

Is this moment for them to make a move up the league or will thoth442FC take advantage of the tougher fixtures that the 3 teams above them have and move back to within touching distance of the top?

@shamzy v @teofilex11

Screen Shot 2023-09-21 at 06.20.10.png

After shaky starts to the season both these sides go into GW6 looking to make it 3 wins from their last 3 in what should be a really interesting match given the number of differentials on show.

At the back, Shamzy FC probably hold an advantage if for no other reason than more their defenders are playing at home this week.

Midfield wise, Martinelli is a serious doubt for the North London derby after limping off last weekend while Likodra FC already have Chukwuemeka sidelined, meaning their midfield options are limited without making any transfers. They do however have the ever reliable Mo Salah who has had a goal involvement in every match so far this season.

Upfront, you'd say that it'll be a close run thing. Callum Wilson got his first Premier League start of the campaign last week and scored the winner against Brentford and given that Isak started in Milan on Tuesday, it might well be that the Englishman gets another chance on Sunday against lowly Sheffield United.

@talesfrmthecrypt v @borran

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 05.28.33.png

2 sides currently occupying the relegation spots who will be desperate for a victory to push them up the table.

At the back, there might be a slight concern for Hiveheadz as to whether the likes of Chilwell, who was surprising left out of the starting XI for Chelsea's last match and Akinji who was left on the bench for City's midweek fixture, will play this weekend.

In midfield, it's a pretty decent battle between a variety of players who are capable of adding goal involvements, while upfront, Suffragette City hold the advantage of having Alvarez over the squad filler of Mubama who is yet to play a minute this season.

@pvmihalache v @nonsowrites

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 05.45.39.png

After horror show performances in GW4, both these sides bounced back with much needed wins in GW5 to leave themselves on 6 points a piece.

The list of differentials on offer suggests this will be a fixture worth watching for the duration of the weekend! Let's start with the big news that Nonz FC have broken rank and become the first team in Division 1 to not include Haaland in their squad! It's a bold move and certainly on current form, Salah's consistency can help fill the void but with Haaland capable of some epic points hauls it might become very difficult to win a head to head when he's on fire.

Elsewhere, Nonz have decided to go with 2 City defensive assets which again is a little left field. However, in midfield they look to have the edge over their opponents in this fixture and even without Haaland, the selection of Alvarez on current form looks like a good one!

@belemo v @mckane

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 06.12.02.png

2 Mid-table teams aiming to push up the league go head to head.

FC McKane played their wildcard last week and decided to stick with Onana in goal - that's a die hard United fan for you!

As for Inzanagi FC, they, along with many FPL managers will be hoping that Estupinan can return to both the Brighton XI and the points - he's recorded just 3 points in the last 3 GWs.

In midfield, the ever impressive Salah looks to have given FC McKane a small edge, while upfront, they've gone with options who don't play in sides that are particularly free-scoring. Inzangi FC will hope that Nicolas Jackson can find his scoring boots (and stop getting booked) and that Joao Pedro's performance off the bench against United + his 2 goals midweek is enough to see him start this weekend.

@deniskj v @ipalibo

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 06.25.46.png

I Feel Qatari will be desperate to end a 4 game losing streak and given that their points haul in a 2 out of the last 3 game weeks has been better than their opponents today, the reigning champions must feel confident of getting their season back on track.

Son's hatrick in GW4 prompted plenty of managers to bring him into the side but he failed to get the desired space in behind a much better organised Sheffield United defence last time out. Will he get those opportunities against Arsenal?

Otherwise Raheem Sterling has been one of the form players in the early part of the season but is playing in a side that otherwise looks bereft of attacking ideas and cohesion.

@elmose v @pappyelblanco

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 06.48.09.png

Both sides started the season brightly but have faded over the last couple of weeks, needing a win from this fixture to get them back in touch with the top sides.

With Gusto and Saliba both enjoying home fixtures, you'd say that Creekside FC hold the advantage at the back.

Creekside have gone with Pape Sarr in midfield which given the number of shots he's getting off from both inside and outside the box might not be a bad option, particularly for the price, while the addition of Mo Salah could also prove key.

Espada Numero Uno also have a couple of injuries to deal with. Henry is out for the season and Osula is doubtful meaning that they will need to bring in reinforcement with their transfer(s).

@Martinlazizi v @gvkanten

Screen Shot 2023-09-22 at 07.17.11.png

Lazz put in a very strong performance in what for most was a tough GW5 to secure 59 points and so will be looking to continue their good form here.

There is almost nothing to separate the 2 sides at the back although Lazz will no doubt bring in a replacement for the injured Henry. That could well give them the advantage with Hungry Lions dependent on 2 Luton Town defenders to get them points.

By contrast, the midfields have no similarities which should make for an interesting contest, although form wise, you'd say that Lazz hold a slight advantage again.

Upfront it's Liverpool v West Ham, Darwin vs Antonio. The Liverpool man has been impressive when on the pitch but has started just once and played a total of 139 mins so far this season. Conversely, Antonio is almost certain to play the first 70mins or so for West Ham against a Liverpool defence that is hardly water tight and often concedes the first goal of the game.

I drafted him in from the onset. Was going to cut him loose last week till I checked the somewhat favourable fixtures. I hope he justifies my decision to stick with him.

I had him in my original team too because I thought United would be a lot tighter at the back but hasn’t turned out that way

Hoping matches against Burnley, Palace, Brentford and Sheffield will yield at least two clean sheets. That's if Onana has not being pulled off the first team by Ten Hag to protect the gk.

Do you remember when Ben Chilwell was clean through on goal and passed it instead of shooting. Jamie Carragher was perplexed, he simply couldn't understand why Chilwell would try an impossible pass when he's clean through. I got him in that week. I know why he did it.

I think 26 points from 11 players is my lowest score ever... and this is my 18th season playing the game.

I ruined Alvarez for everybody this week and I've allowed Jackson to temporarily get his career back on track.

Hey don't forget when Fernandes missed that header from 4 yards.

I've unselected anyone you've got in your squad. You are clearly cursed!

Hey don't forget when Fernandes missed that header from 4 yards.

Oh, don't you worry about that. It's the way the commentators are surprised when these things happen and I just sit and laugh, knowing what they don't.

I used to write a regular blog about FPL where I'd select 2 players for the forthcoming 5 gameweeks - one would have to be a "budget" player. Over 50% of them got injured before the 5 weeks had finished.

That sounds very much like the 2nd half of my last season. The silver lining being that as soon as I put Saliba in he got injured and Arsenal’s title bid fell apart.

Ha ha! Well, I was thinking about creating a squad of players that I don't like in the hope that the curse strikes again... It's certainly something to consider before Southgate picks his squad for the Euros!

I need to read the posts from preseason but is hivefpl now only focused on Div 1 and Div 2. In other words, is a Division 2 player like myself only focused on results in my head-to-heads and the final position in the Division 2 table, ie the hivefpl table does not matter and is just to register people effectively?

No not really. The main prizes will still be awarded to the top 10 players in the classic league. Last year's winner of the classic league took home over 1000 Hive so that is definitely still the one to aim for!

The Head to Head seemed a natural addition and we hope it will help keep more players engaged for longer. It also allows us to reward players on a weekly basis.

I guess as we get further into the season, it might be beneficial for some teams who feel they are too far behind in the classic league to win the prizes, to focus on the head to head.

The top 5 teams from Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1 to replace the bottom 5.

So at the moment you stand to win a good chunk of change from the classic league and get promoted to Division 1 where the weekly prize for winning is higher.
