Hive FPL - Week 27 Match Reviews & Key Stats

HIVE FPL.png

Hello and welcome to the review of match Week 27. It was a week where the Premierships stalwart football review show Match of the Day ended up with no pundits or commentators after fallout from presenters Gary Lineker's views on the UK's immigration policy. The whole show lasted 20 minutes which some of us old lads found good actually because we got to go to bed a bit earlier. On the downside we didn't get to see as many matches as we would have liked. But how as ever let us get on with this Hive FPL review.

Bournemouth v Liverpool

This match ruined bets all over the globe as 90% of people were sure that Liverpool were going to put Bournemouth to the sword after their 7 - 0 victory over United last week. Liverpool scored 9 goals here last year. But the League table does not lie. Liverpool are inconsistent this season and this match actually summed them up. After Salah missed a penalty and another so so performance by Liverpool's defence. Big Virgil once again tried to use his aura to deflect a Bournemouth attack and was beaten too easily by Alassane Ouattara for Billings goal in the 28th minute. The question on everybody's mind in @hivefpl is what do we do with the Liverpool players in our team. Transfer them out or just stick with them until they come good. There are glimpses but there are only 12 games to go. Too little too late. Salah is still one of the top players which raised my eyebrows so he will be probably the only player most contestants have left in their teams right now.

Leeds v Brighton

This was a mad game with Leeds coming from behind twice to draw with Brighton. Leeds are still great to watch with their hard press still as mad as ever from the Bielsa era. It was funny to watch. Whenever they took a breather, Brighton got back in the game and scored so Leeds players will be wrecked after this one. Jack Harrison was Leeds's best player by a mile even though he scored an own goal. Solly March was excellent as usual. One to watch here even at 28 as Potter and De Zerbi think highly of the player. Evan Ferguson didn't have his best game. Still a rookie and looked like a rookie. But maybe one to watch for next year as he has all the goods to be a top player.

Tottenham v Nottingham Forest

All the dark clouds surrounding Spurs who have now won 5 from their last 7 Premiership games. Some would even same if Spurs are going to come 3rd or 4th this season then the midweek games gone will suit them. They have 1 game per week now being knocked out of the Champions League and the FA cup. They are still playing terrible but grinding out results , a very un-spursy thing altogether. If there were any team that Tottenham wanted this weekend, its Notts Forest. They were terrible. Unlike Spurs they had a good first half with Kane scoring twice. Richarlison after his little strop looked on it and had a goal disallowed by VAR in the 3rd minute. Kane proved he is still not out of the Golden Boot race with another 2 goals which brings him up to 20 Premiership goals this season. Son got his 6th goal of the season but this is not a good return from a player like him and is still a problem for Tottenham, He has not been on it this season for a number of different reason. The Golden Boot last year being one of them.

Everton v Brentford

Everton were dead and buried last month and then Sean Dyches took over and they are back to winning games. This game was a strange one when Dwight McNeil scored after just 1 minute. It took alot of effort to keep Brentford at bay. But Brentford were not on it on the day and Everton got an important win.

Leicester City v Chelsea

Something clicked with Chelsea against Dortmund last week. They finally clicked and by god they clicked very well. That was the turning point under Potter. Chelsea have now despatched Leeds, Dortmund and Leicester in the space of eight days - having failed to win in their previous 6. Shock horror, Who would have thought a new manager might need a few weeks to settle in. Let alone the fact that he got a conveyor belt of talent in the door in January. Potter has not had it easy. Mudryk showed his £89 million price tag by ripping Leicester to shreds up the wing providing his first assist . Felix looks on it as well. Maddison was the only stand out performer for Leicester who are back in the danger zone.

Crystal Palace v Man City

Man City made hard work of this but this is what Veira's Palace are all about. A tipster gave me an interesting tip last week telling me Palace have a terrible run in and were 12/1 to be relegated. A value that he jumped on. Interesting. Who else scored the penalty for City other than the Viking. Uncaptain him at your peril. This is the kind of game that City slip up in but not this week. They keep the pressure on Arsenal for now.

Man United v Southampton

The Brazilian midfielder Casemiro who is essential for the Man United revival is now suspended for March after a red card against Southampton. Southampton are Uniteds bogey team for years so it wasn't any surprise that this resulted in a draw. Anyone with Rashford back in their team may decide to change things up for the next few games as the engine room for United is now gone. A dull game this one.

Fulham v Arsenal

Screenshot 2023-03-12 at 22.34.17.png

This game was set up for Fulham to win but Arsenal have other ideas and it looks like they really do have the backbone to win the Premiership after all. Fulham are no push overs but the gunners had the game won by half time. And it was the usual suspects who are making up for the absence of Jesus. Martinelli and Odengaard on the scoresheet. Those two are popular amongst the @hivefpl fantasy teams so there will be celebrations all around especially that Martinelli is playing back into good form after a dry spell.

Newcastle v Wolves

Newcastle are spiralling and needed a win today and they got it being the best team for the majority of the game. However Wolves can afford to be somewhat angry at not being awarded a penalty after Pope ( yep again) took down Jimenez and should have seen red. This kind of spurred Newcastle into action and Isak scored with a towering header. Almiron who was dropped to the bench came up with their second after a Wolves equaliser shortly before hand. Fantasy League contestants may now have to take a look at Newcastle and ask a question, will they push on now or drop points? If so then a few players may have to come out of their teams.

West Ham v Aston Villa

West Ham have been struggling lately but are not as bad as their 18th place going into today. I will be shocked if they go down. But it was not looking good when Ollie Watkins gave Villa the lead in the 17th minute. A penalty from Said Benrahma got West Ham a valuable point to move them out of the relegation zone.

Top Contestant this week

The most points this game week was scored by a newcomer to the @hivefpl I think as he is well down the pecking order in 101st place. Their name is Rubilu Baako. Well done to you sir.

Leaderboard so far.

Denis is still topping the poles at 1782 points but with an average of 53 last week there are people slowly catching up with him. He has to watch his back. Victor Jay had another good week and he is catching Denis at pace. As usual a percentage of this post goes to the leader in 1% place.

Top Players so far this season

Haaland and Kane up top. Salah is a very interesting 4th place. I would have thought Mohammed is not firing but it turns out he is. Arsenal have 5 players in the top 15 considering their position. De Bruyne is still up there as well even though he is off it at the moment.

So we have 11 games left and all to play for in this campaign. What a great season we are having. Thanks to everyone who has taken part. Don't forget to jump on the Hive FPL discord chat where there is daily conversation on how Arsenal are going to bottle the league this year. It is great fun. Link is here

That is it from us this week. One of the team will be back on Friday with the Week 28 preview.

But I didn't though. If it was FOMO I would have done it in 26. This was calculated. Now, if my gamble works out today I might open a healthy gap..🤲🤲

Nope. My team is already set up for 28 hence the WC in 27. I think I can manage with free transfers for now.

Damn Toney scored! I’ve not had him in my team once this season. Convinced as soon as I pick him he’ll stop scoring…

That is definitely Toney. Dropped a stinker in the first game and then pops up with a goal and assist to beat the Brighton captainers. Shame he might get his 10th yellow soon for his two match ban if the gambling police don't get him first.
